Charity's Magical Mystery Tour a big success

Almost 50 Dream-A-Way guests took part in a magical mystery tour on Wednesday 16 September alongside volunteer, Mike Rock, and his team from Friends of Dream-A-Way Sidmouth.

Guests were overwhelmed with generosity when treated to teas, coffees and cakes during their first stop at Marine Public House and Beckett’s Coffee Shop which sit on the Sidmouth sea front. Dream-A-Way were also thrilled by the generous donation given by The Marine.

Following some retail therapy and sight-seeing, the group travelled along the East Devon coast to award-winning spot, Ladram Bay.

Devon wildlife consultancy firm scoops award

EAD Ecology, a firm of ecological consultants based in Exeter, has been named ‘Consultant of the Year’ by Redrow Homes (West Country) in the annual awards ceremony for suppliers and subcontractors to Redrow’s West Country division.

EAD Ecology’s Director Matt Cowley said: “We are delighted to have won this award. We have very high standards and it is important for our team of ecological specialists that their good work is recognised. Equally, the award reflects the importance that Redrow Homes attach to conserving and enhancing wildlife within their residential developments.”...

New funding available for Dartmoor communities

Dartmoor National Park has just launched its Communities Fund for 2015/16. The Fund, supported by the New Homes Bonus from West Devon Borough, Teignbridge and South Hams District Councils, will support capital projects that ensure the long term viability of valued existing community facilities and services, or create new community infrastructure to meet identified community needs.

South Molton Recycling Centre to re-open

South Molton Recycling Centre will re-open on Saturday 3 October, Devon County Council has confirmed.

The site has been closed since the end of June after the company which was running the site went into administration.

An agreement has now been reached with Devon Waste Management Limited to run the centre on behalf of the County Council.

From Saturday 3 October, the recycling centre will be open on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10am to 4.30pm.

Representatives from companies across Devon travelled to London on Thursday to promote the county as a conference destination.

A total of 25 firms travelled to London for the Destination Devon showcase held at the Institute of Directors on Pall Mall, including Bovey Castle, Dartington Hall, First Great Western, Land Rover Experience, Sandy Park and the National Marine Aquarium

In conjunction with the start of Rugby World Cup 2015 and to celebrate Exeter’s host city status, work has started on themed creative activity across Exeter.

Car treasure hunt for Parkinson's UK

On Sunday 4th October a Car Treasure Hunt will take place in and around East Devon starting in the car park at Greendale Farm Shop (EX5 2JU), from 1.30 – 2.30pm. The Treasure Hunt (including a couple of walking sections) takes about 3 hours to complete and there will be all sorts of things to look out for along the route. Teams, of which there needs to be at least two adults will be issued on arrival with details of the route to follow, all in rhyme.
