Exeter Deaf Academy talent in the spotlight

PaddleBoat Theatre Company has joined forces with Exeter Deaf Academy to create an enriched production of ‘A Little Man’s Holiday’ using non-verbal communication and British Sign Language.

During a successful run of shows at Devon libraries last summer, PaddleBoat Theatre Company encountered many children in the audience with hearing impairments, Asperger’s and learning difficulties which inspired them to make the show more accessible and Deaf friendly.

Quitting smoking increases levels of happiness

Nearly two thirds (62%) of ex-smokers in the South West are happier since they quit smoking with around a third saying that giving up smoking has led to major lifestyle changes, according to new research commissioned by Smokefree South West to coincide with the launch of its Be There Tomorrow campaign.

The survey also reveals that the vast majority of smokers (91 per cent) experienced reduced or the same levels of anxiety after quitting, even though 35 per cent of people thought that kicking the habit would increase their levels of anxiety.

Legendary 10cc to perform in Exeter

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of their seminal album Sheet Music – which included Top 10 hit The Wall Street Shuffle – 10cc will embark on a 26-date theatre tour, commencing 23rd September at Hall For Cornwall in Truro, before heading to the Great Hall in Exeter in September.

High winds and heavy rain batter Devon

Motorists are being warned to take care on Devon’s roads today as heavy rain and gale force winds batter the region.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for strong winds, and upgraded their heavy rain warning from yellow to amber, valid until 6pm today.

Flooding has been reported across the region, along with fallen trees. Police are advising drivers to take extra care on the roads due to surface water and reduced visibility.

Exeter City’s match against Oxford United has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Hip hop legend and founder member of NWA, DJ Yella has announced he is to perform in Exeter.

The gig has been organised by local gig promoter David Meylan, who brought Snoop Dogg to the city in 2014.

Government announce safeguard for privatised Green Investment Bank based on Regen SW constitution

The government has announced it will protect the ‘green purpose’ of the Green Investment Bank after privatisation, using an approach modelled on Regen SW’s constitution. A ‘special share’ in the bank will be held by a separate company independent of both the bank and the government.

The bank would not be able to make changes to its green mission unless this ‘Special Shareholder’ gives its consent.
