An extraordinary musical event is shaping up for a Westcountry Choir when they sing at the opening night of a world premiere Theatre show TINY HEROES at Exeter’s BikeShed Theatre next week.

Local folk choir Voices In Common have been invited to sing the opening three nights of a newly written theatre piece by award winning playwright Daniel Bye.

Daniel Bye who was last at The Bike Shed theatre with the phenomenal Going Viral, has been developing the world premiere of his new show Tiny Heroes, on our Devon Residency programme.

Tiny Heroes is a show about acts of heroism and the idea of heroism.

“Over our two weeks research and development in Exeter  and North Devon we’ve met people who’ve done amazing things, almost all of whom say ‘obviously I’m not a hero’ and almost all of whom are, depending on what the word ‘hero’ really means.” Said Sarah Punshon of ARC Theatre.

The show has been commissioned by Beaford Arts in association with The Bike Shed Theatre, produced by ARC Stockton

The songs Voices In Common are singing are specially written for the show and centre around the theme of volunteering and those kid of heroes. “I never ever thought I would be doing this” said a choir member “this group has built my confidence enormously”.

“We are really thrilled to be asked to do this” said the Voices choir director Paul Wilson “We are hoping to make new friends and provide a counterpoint to the dramatic action”

Leading the Exeter group on the opening night will be experienced choir leader Sarah Owen, who leads the vocal programme for Wren Music. Sarah said “We’re looking forward enormously to taking part in this really significant event.”

The shows will take place at Exeter Bikeshed Theatre, Fore Street, Exeter  On Tuesday16th, Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th February 2016.
