Westbank celebrates 20 years of Kidzone with current and former attendees

Westbank Community Health and Care has celebrated the 20th anniversary of its dedicated childcare facility, Kidzone, with former and current attendees. The Ofsted-registered facility at Exminster cares for more than 140 children in total, offering nursery, pre-school, holiday clubs and wrap-around school care for children up to 11 years old. From early summer this year, Kidzone has accepted babies aged from 5 months, and this age group is slowly building.

Home Instead Exeter and East Devon’s newly launched live-in care service means that clients have the option of receiving full-time care within their own home. Day and night, elderly people will have the same CAREGiver with them to perform the tasks that they need help with, whether that’s support with mobility or cooking and housework. Just under half of children waiting for adoption are in family groups of two or more with 20 groups waiting in Devon

Latest figures show there are currently 2,020 children waiting to be adopted in England and, of those, 44% are in family groups of two or more. Groups of children wait an average of 17 months to be adopted, which is 36% longer (135 days more) than individual children. People in the next phase of the vaccination programme will be contacted and offered an appointment at a local vaccination centre in Devon in coming weeks when their age group becomes eligible.

The vaccination programme is entering phase two as it moves to vaccinate groups 10-12, which cover people aged 18-49. Currently, people aged 42 and over are eligible for a vaccine with other age groups due to be invited in coming weeks.

The family of a Devon man, who worked as a fireman on steam trains and as a BT engineer, is appealing to his former colleagues for answers about how he was exposed to asbestos, which caused his death.

Antony Talbot, who was born in Exwick and lived in Exeter, died aged 88 in October last year, one month after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a terminal asbestos-related lung cancer.
