Walkies! Take on 62 Mile challenge to Support Dogs Trust Ilfracombe this October 

This October, Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is encouraging dog-lovers to put their best foot, or paw, forward to support dogs in need by taking on a brand-new fundraising challenge, 62 Miles in Dogtober, to help the charity continue to fund its vital rehoming services for dogs. Fundraisers can walk, jog, cycle or swim 62 miles throughout the month to complete in their own way.

Participants are asked to complete just two miles a day for the 31 days of October, or 62 miles in total. People can take part solo, bring their dog along for company, or team up with friends, family, or colleagues...

Devon preparing to welcome The Tour of Britain

The Tour of Britain will be making a welcome return to Devon in September with a gruelling 115-mile route awaiting some of the world's top cyclists.

Devon will host Stage Two of the 2021 Tour of Britain on Monday 6 September, starting in the new town of Sherford and finishing in Exeter.

The route takes in a number of communities on its way from the South Hams and across Dartmoor, including Ermington, Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Modbury, Ivybridge, Cornwood, Yelverton, Tavistock, Princetown, Moretonhampstead and Dunsford.

The temporary one-way layout of Exeter’s Magdalen Road is to be made permanent after councillors rejected the favoured option of residents for its post-covid future.

Famed for its independent shops and restaurants, the neighbourhood centre of St Leonards became one-way in June 2020 to support social distancing and active travel measures. It was claimed this would be temporary.

PEOPLE in the South West are being urged to get on their bikes for Cancer Research UK and raise money for a wheelie great cause.

People of all ages and abilities – from seasoned cyclists to recent converts – are being encouraged to sign up now for the Cycle 300 challenge to help the charity continue its life-saving mission.

Diabetes UK looking for swimmers in Devon to make a splash in charity challenge

People from Devon are being invited to dive into a sponsored swimming challenge and raise vital funds for Diabetes UK.

Swim22 runs between 22 July and 22 October and involves swimming a total of 22 miles – the equivalent of crossing the English Channel. Participants can take on the challenge at their own pace, accumulating the miles across the course of the 12 weeks.

All funds raised will go towards Diabetes UK’s work in funding life-saving research and making sure everyone living with diabetes gets the care and support they need.
