New regeneration vision for Haven Banks retail park presented for public consultation

Exeter is set to have a vibrant new neighbourhood with new homes, retail and leisure facilities and new green space as part of regeneration proposals for Haven Banks retail park.

Experienced developer Coplan Estates and joint venture partner Welbeck CP have launched a public consultation to invite feedback on their plans for the regeneration of Haven Banks retail park at Water Lane and Haven Road, south of Exeter city centre.

With Matalan and the Range having closed their stores and relocated to other premises in the city, the retail park is now predominantly redundant....

New fund will help households with the rising cost of living

Devon County Council has announced a new pot of funding to help residents who are struggling to afford to pay for their gas, electricity or water usage, buy food or other essential items.

The Household Support Fund is a government initiative, and in the latest funding round Devon will be allocated around £5 million.

There are conditions on how the money can be used, but the County Council is prioritising up to £200,000 to support Devon residents who have prepayment, or ‘pay-as-you-go’ meters, to pay rising energy bills.

Buckfast Abbey hosts special musical preview event to launch new CD

On Sunday 15th May, South Devon’s Buckfast Abbey will host a launch event for a new CD which features the complete organ music of Father Sebastian Wolff – a former respected Organist at Buckfast Abbey.

The event has been organised to celebrate Wolff’s significant contribution to the world of organ music in the twentieth century, and will take the form of a 30-minute concert recital and presentation of the CD in the Abbey Church, followed by a drinks reception with Fr Sebastian in the Abbey’s newly refurbished Schiller Hall.

Police appeal after fatal collision in Crediton

Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Crediton are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the A377 near Downes Mill, Crediton, at around 9.10pm, on Thursday 5 May.

The motorcycle rider, a man in his 40s, was seriously injured and was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The rider’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a specialist trained police officer.

Labour retain control of city council on a good night for the Greens

Labour has retained control of Exeter City Council as expected, following an interesting election night in which the party lost seats but unexpectedly won one in Topsham, and the Greens made gains.

Overall, Labour’s majority dropped by two – down to 26 of the council’s 39 seats – with the Greens winning seats from them in Heavitree and St David’s to take their tally to five.

A leading builders merchant has marked the opening of a new branch in Exeter by supporting a south west charity and hosting a special darts event.

As part of its ongoing expansion around the UK, Selco Builders Warehouse has cut the ribbon on a new branch on Filmer Way in Marsh Barton, its 73rd in the UK.

Two professors at the University of Exeter have received prestigious awards from the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).

Today (03 May), it has been announced that Professor Nicola Thomas and Professor Paul Cloke will receive honours as part of the Royal Geographical Society’s 2022 awards.

Professor Thomas will receive the Taylor and Francis Award for outstanding leadership in research-led teaching and community partnerships, whilst Professor Cloke will receive the Victoria Medal for his contribution to rural geography and to the wider discipline.
