Leading South West building services engineering company EX2 Group has welcomed three new apprentices this week, as they begin their professional training in Electrical Installation with Exeter College.

Christian, Alfie, and Harvey were welcomed to the Exeter offices by James Rayner (right), Project Manager. The apprentices will combine on-site experience with classroom learning as they work towards their Level 3 Electrical Installation qualifications. Local care home teams up with Hospital Radio Exeter

Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter have teamed up with the RD&E’s very own radio station, Hospital Radio Exeter. Julia and Richard Green who present on a Friday evening 6pm – 8pm have kindly dedicated an hour of their show 7pm – 8pm to Cumberland Grange.

Residents are able to put in their song requests, messages and shout outs for loved ones and enjoy the hour of music and fun. Family members and friends of the residents are also able to request songs and send in messages which has bought a few tears to the eyes whilst listening.

RGB thanks community for generous donations to Ukraine appeal

RGB Building Supplies is thanking those in the community who donated to its appeal for essential items that could be passed on to Ukrainian citizens.

In support of the Builders Merchants Federation’s (BMF) national appeal, RGB received 13 bulk bags of donations. The bags usually hold around 800kg of sand or aggregates.

The donations included thermal clothing, bedding, sleeping bags, torches, first aid kits, toiletries, baby items, household cleaning items and non-perishable food.

Council announces even more free holiday activities and meals for this Summer

Children from across Devon aged 5 to 16, who are eligible for benefit-related free school meals, are invited to take up an action-packed Summer holiday this year, as part of Devon County Council’s government-funded Holiday Activities and Food programme.

The programme is to provide free physical activities and healthy, nutritional, hot meals during school holidays, and the council has again joined up with activity providers to arrange the activities across Devon.

DCW Polymers transforms beach clean litter into recycled plastic bench for Kenn C of E Primary School

Year five and six pupils from Kenn C of E Primary School collected over several bags of litter during a beach clean which will now be transformed into a recycled plastic bench for their playground.

Independent commercial waste management firm DCW partnered with Keep Britain Tidy’s Ocean Recovery Project, supported by South West Water, to organise the beach clean in Exmouth. On Saturday 18th June The Jive Aces, UK’s number one jive and swing band and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists, performed on Market Square at Guildhall Shopping Centre and gave a free two hour performance to all shoppers with an important message. Marking 20 years since the launch of its famous ‘Should’ve gone to…’ campaign, Specsavers is asking audiences to share their own sight-related and hearing anecdotes.

Firearms surrender sees more than 100 weapons handed over in Devon and Cornwall

More than 110 firearms were surrendered in the Devon and Cornwall area as part of a national firearms surrender.

Running from Thursday 12 May to Sunday 29 May, the national firearms surrender operation saw 115 firearms, nine imitation firearms, as well as a significant amount of ammunition and component parts handed into Devon & Cornwall Police.

The national campaign, instigated by the National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NaBIS), was supported by other forces around the country.

Stagecoach, the country’s biggest bus and coach operator, is ready to help keep Britain on the move as people plan alternative travel to avoid the disruption caused by next week’s rail strikes.

Strikes are due to take place on 21, 23 and 25 June, with train services on 22, 24 and 26 June also expected to be disrupted.
