InExeter announces markets programme of events for summer

This summer InExeter is delivering a host of markets within Exeter City. Organised by Markets Manager Lottie Stanley, the markets planned showcase the local talent and bring a hive of activity to the Centre of Exeter.

Brand new for Summer 2022 is the launch of The Exeter Independent Market which will take place on Saturday 30th July on Cathedral Green. Supported by the Cathedral itself, the market will host over sixty stalls and will showcase the best and the brightest the Southwest has to offer.

Lottie Stanley, InExeter Markets Manager says, ‘There are so many amazing local businesses and artists here in the Southwest and this market is about celebrating them. It will include Independent Foodies, Artisan Craft plus Vintage and Preloved Treasures. We are thrilled to be bringing this gorgeous event to the heart of Exeter.’

For a taste of what will be at the market there will be Truffle Hounds, a new independent business on Fore Street in Exeter, Helen Leslie, an Exeter based illustrator working out of the Generator and Barbican Botanics, a Plymouth based Gin company whose labelling is every bit as gorgeous as their spirits, will all be exhibiting at the new market. Truffle Hounds specialise in homemade chocolates, pastries and ice creams will be exhibiting with a range of their chocolate and pastry products as one of the local food suppliers.

Exeter Independents Market will be open to visitors from 11am to 4pm and is free to the public. The stalls have been curated around the grounds to the front of the Cathedral and the market has been designed to be fully accessible through the support of Exe Access.

The Exeter Independent Market is the latest addition to a range of market projects Lottie has worked on as part of her role at InExeter. Following this market, InExeter have been working with the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF) with Exeter hosting the Regional Finals of the NMTF Young Traders Awards where young traders from across the Southwest will compete for acclaim and recognition (as well as prizes). With expert judge, Charlie of Big Bakes, this event will take place 10-4pm on Cathedral Green on Saturday 6th August. The Young Traders Awards is a campaign run by the NMTF to find the next generation of market traders and celebrating emerging talent. Look out for our very own home-grown Beeswax Alchemy in the competition.

The addition of The Exeter Independent Market and the Young Traders Award Market join the popular Fore Street Flea Markets and the Indoor Market Pop Up Events both organised by Lottie. Ann Hunter, InExeter BID Manager comments, ‘Exeter is a diverse city with an array of Independent Businesses and Artists. These events across different areas of the city celebrate all the talent in and around Exeter.’
