Dawlish businesses join Riviera Line campaign

Thirty Dawlish businesses have joined the campaign ‘Get here on the Riviera Line’ launched by the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership’s Citizens’ Rail project. New maintenance boat for canal rangers

Rangers at Devon County Council’s Grand Western Canal are celebrating after receiving a new work boat donated by generous residents.

The Friends of the Grand Western Canal bought the new boat and outboard engine with money raised following the breaching of the Halberton embankment in 2012.

An Exeter language school has teamed up with a Torbay-based work placement company to forge a new partnership set to bring business benefits to both.

The Globe English Centre, based at St David’s Hill in Exeter, provides English classes to people who want to learn it as their second language. The Training Partnership (TTPL) works with hundreds of Devon firms to provide placements in different sectors for trainees from across Europe and beyond.

Acclaimed artist unveils new collection in Exeter

The works of an engineer turned professional artist who creates enchanting paintings inspired by the English countryside will be on display at an Exeter gallery this month.

Acclaimed painter Paul Corfield presented his charming new collection of land and seascapes at Castle Fine Art on Cathedral Yard on Saturday 25th July. The exhibition will be available to view for two weeks until Sunday 9th August.

Welcome drop in repossessions

Leading local advice charity, Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau, is welcoming an overall 39% decrease in repossession cases listed at Exeter County Court in the 3-month period ending 30th June 2015. This is in comparison with the same period last year.

Across all housing sectors, where a CAB adviser has assisted clients facing repossession, clients have avoided repossession in over 90% of cases.

Children will have the chance to clamber on fire engines, get locked inside a police car and inspect an ambulance and first responder vehicle at an Emergency Services Blue Light Day, which takes place at Challaborough Bay Holiday Park on Saturday August 8th.

The event is free to attend and takes place between 10am and 4pm and is being held to heighten awareness of Devon’s emergency services.

Lord Sugar may be king of The Apprentice, but a Devon dealership has been doing its bit over the past three decades to help local people into work.

JFE Exeter Nissan, part of the Wellington Motor Group, currently has seven team members who started out as apprentices – and are still working at the Marsh Barton Trading Estate.

EV Technician Steve Horwell is the longest-serving, having been employed at the dealership for 28 years. He helped train Service Manager Pete Lascelles, who joined shortly after him.

Motorcyclist dies following A38 crash

A motorcyclist has died following a collision on the A38 at Tiverton this morning (Monday 27 July).

Emergency services were called at 8.30am following the collision between the Honda CBR 125 motorcycle and a fuel tanker near Burlescombe. A third vehicle, a white Citroen C2, was also involved in the collision.

The motorcyclist, a man 23 year old man from the Tiverton area, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin have been informed.
