Exeter Airport gears up for start of busy summer season

Exeter Airport is gearing up for the start of a busy summer season during May, with flights to seven destinations taking off with the UK’s leading travel brand TUI.

Twice-weekly services to Corfu, Dalaman, Menorca, and Zante began this week (1-7 May), as well as flights to Crete and Rhodes, which operate once a week.

This will be followed by a twice-weekly service to Antalya, Turkey from Saturday 27 May. In addition, operator TUI began flying to Paphos and Majorca in March, and April respectively.

Major plans for student and co-living blocks at Exeter’s former Heavitree Road police station have been rejected.

Eutopia Homes have thanked residents for their feedback after holding a public exhibition on draft proposals to redevelop the Exmouth Junction, a former Network Rail site, on Prince Charles Road in Exeter.

Plans to develop the site with 465 new homes to buy and rent, as well as retirement homes were displayed to the public at St James Church on Wednesday 27th February.

Exeter could get a stunning new waterside feature.

Plans have been submitted to build a brand new bridge and boardwalk down on Exeter’s Quayside. The new structure would replace the existing Mallison Bridge which spans the medieval leats on the north bank of the River Exe. The bridge had to be repaired in March 2017 after some wooden sections became rotten. After work was carried out, it became apparent that a long-term solution was needed. Queen’s Drive in Exmouth including associated facilities for water sports users such as a café, restaurant and retail spaces as well as associated car parking.

Members of East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee have voted in favour of granting planning permission for the construction of a new water sports centre and facilities for water sports users such as a café, restaurant, retail spaces and car parking at Queen’s Drive in Exmouth.

Plans to create a new leisure centre and bus station in the city centre have taken a step forward. Councillors last night (30 January) backed a recommendation which would see the current bus station continue to operate as normal until May.

Full Council today approved a major investment package for Market Walk Shopping Centre, Newton Abbot.

Councillors unanimously supported the £2million upgrade scheme which will modernise the centre and create an open airy and spacious place to visit and shop. The Crown Estate and TH Real Estate’s plans for an extension to Princesshay Shopping Centre have been submitted to Exeter City Council for approval. Outline consent for the scheme was formally granted in July 2016. Work on preliminary designs for a new bridge further inland from Alma Bridge in Sidmouth is continuing, Devon County Council has confirmed.
