A colourful cast of characters living through Exeter’s most dramatic moments are bringing the city’s history to life thanks to new research.

The Hidden Exeter app allows people to navigate through the city using period and modern maps, exploring key landmarks.

Step up and support Exeter Dementia Action Alliance during World Alzheimer’s Month 2021 and beyond 

If the thought of undertaking a marathon sounds too much effort, how about spreading the distance across 12 months, or tackling something gentler like having a picnic on the route - and still being able to receive a medal for your efforts.

These are the options being offered by the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance as part of its new Complete Cosy and Comfier Cosy challenges.

Working with events management company Results Base, the Alliance is hoping to encourage more people out on to the Exeter Cosy Routes it created last year to mark World Alzheimer's Month.

People wanted from every town and city to help make a new national walking network

During the Spring 2020 lockdown volunteers from across the nation plotted a network of walking routes that connect all of Great Britain’s towns and cities.

Without leaving home over 7,000 ‘Slow Ways’ walking routes were mapped using existing paths, trails and roads. Combined, the routes stretch for 100,000km and lap the equator twice.

The team behind Slow Ways is now looking for people from every town and city in Great Britain to walk and review the routes to make sure they work in practice.

Borrow Pit walk open for all!

The Borrow Pit pond at Seaton Marshes in now fully accessible for everyone to enjoy. The pond, which can be found at Seaton Marshes local nature reserve offers a peaceful circular walk away from the hustle and bustle of Seaton and is a haven for wildlife.

A new activity is hitting the streets of Exeter this week with the launch of the Tramble App, a 60-minute walking challenge where you answer 10 questions based on what you see along the route.

There are currently two of the Tramble walks in Exeter with more to follow in the summer.

I went out and did the Exeter Cathedral and Quay Tramble and saw a few parts of hidden Exeter that I have always somehow missed before. There is the House that Moved and a famous literary connection I was dumbfounded by.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, East Devon District Council's Countryside team has put together a walk to lift the mood and encourage people to spend time outdoors and explore the beautiful countryside.

The team helps to maintain the South West Coast Path for walkers to enjoy, in partnership with a number of other organisations and land owners, and countryside ranger, Dave Palmer has developed the three and a half mile walk from Beer Head car park to Branscombe.
