In my last message I shared with you a little of my story, which certainly resonated with many of you.

Major shift in breast cancer care on horizon as NICE recommends preventative drugs for 'at-risk' women

Hundreds of thousands of women across England and Wales could be spared the distress and uncertainty of a breast cancer diagnosis by taking a daily pill to help prevent the disease. Updated guidance by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) says the NHS should give tamoxifen or raloxifene to particular groups of women with a family history of cancer [1] because the drugs can help stop them getting breast cancer if they are taken for five years.

Roughly 50,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK [2], making it the most common...

Half of women working in the South West earn less than the Living Wage

Half of all women working in the South West earn less than the Living Wage, according to new research by Fair Play South West. Jackie Longworth, Chair of Fair Play South West, said: "Women workers suffer from the double whammy that they earn less per hour than men and they work fewer paid hours per week...

New awards event for businesswomen in Devon!

March 2013 will see the launch of the Venus Awards, hosted by Celia Delaney of SpeakingSuccess, a local Devon company. We are proud to announce that The Exeter Daily is the official online media sponsor of the awards.

Originating in Dorset in 2009, the Venus Awards aim to recognise as many businesswomen as possible in numerous regions across the country. Venus Awards has selected Devon as one of the first of those regions.

The many businesses that already recognise the upside of supporting women in business are now using the Venus Awards as a vehicle to promote that concept...

(NewsPoint) –A group of women dressed as suffragettes, including Emmeline Pankhurst's great-granddaughter, marched on Parliament on Wednesday as part of 'Femlobby'. More than one hundred years since the suffragettes marched on Parliament in the fight for women's votes, Kat Banyard, author and founder of UK Feminista, explained that: “Too often the issue of women's rights and sexism is left off the agenda and only by us all taking action will we make sure it's put back there and that we see the advances that we so desperately need...What we'll be doing on Wednesday is putting feminism...

Long Distance Relationships

Parents, especially mothers, find it very hard to be away from their young children for long periods of time. In the same way, kids will often scream their head off when their parents leave them.

What’s the cause of this kind of separation anxiety? I think it’s basically the bond formed between two people who are in a loving relationship. One can’t help but have the other person in mind all the time. The same thing holds true for lovers. Even before my husband and I were married, I could hardly wait for him to call or meet me, and for weekends when I knew we could spend more time...

The Venus Awards are back!

Firm support from banking and the legal system kicked off this year’s Venus Awards sponsorship breakfast in Exeter today.

Last year’s Devon awards saw 1,400 nominations, hundreds of businesses involved and 12 winners. 200 people were present at the regional finals at Exeter University’s Great Hall.
