People with floral flair sought for Hospiscare arrangements

Flower enthusiasts in Exeter are being sought to help a local charity provide a colourful and fragrant environment for its patients.

Hospiscare is looking for volunteers with a flair for flower arranging to join its flower team; arranging floral bouquets from small to bigger projects around the hospice.

The hospice, based on Dryden Road, Exeter, receives donations of flowers each week from funeral tributes and supporters of the charity, as well as a huge weekly donation from the Sainsbury’s store on Alphington Road.

Dream-A-Way success at Devon County Show

Dream-A-Way, the Exeter-based charity that provides holidays and outings for people with disabilities across Devon and Cornwall, is celebrating a big success as the Official Show Charity at the Devon County show at Westpoint last week. Volunteers from the Exmouth Lifeboat Fundraising Team will be holding a cake bake sale on 26 May at the boathouse on Queen's Drive. The event will raise money towards the cost of the launch and recovery vehicle for the Shannon-class lifeboat due in 2014.

The charity’s team are inviting members of the public to join them putting the ‘fun’ into fundraising for this this exciting event, held during the bank holiday weekend.

Devon Faiths Training for Major Incidents

More than 70 volunteers from seven different churches and six other faith and belief traditions have now been trained to be able to respond in the event of a major emergency in Devon, Plymouth or Torbay. The Devon Faiths Response Team (DFRT) recently held a further training workshop at County Hall, Exeter at which participants heard from South Devon Coroner Ian Arrow and trauma specialist Liz Deane. Exmouth resident, Michael Griffin held a James Bond-style party at the Exmouth Pavilion on Saturday 20 April. Both volunteer Deputy Coxswains from Exmouth RNLI were invited to help raise money towards their latest appeal.

Exmouth RNLI on Hairy Bikers Everyday Gourmet

Exmouth RNLI members are due to make an appearance on the Hairy Bikers Everyday Gourmet programme tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.

Following a rescue of four young men on October 23 2011, volunteer crew members Mark Champion and Andy Williams both received an inscription of thanks from the Institution on Vellum for their roles.
