Child Bereavement UK supports families both when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, and when a child faces bereavement. The charity also trains professionals such as doctors, teachers and midwives to help them better understand and meet the needs of grieving families.

On December 6 the 2018 Devon Community Honours awards hosted by RHS Rosemoor will celebrate some of Devon’s most amazing individuals and Edna Cahill 90, from Exeter will be one of those people.

Lilian, 80 years old from Axminster, volunteers as treasurer of her local support group, helps fundraise in the local community, and has volunteered in the Axminster Hospiscare shop for over 22 years.

Shop manager, Anna says, “Lilian is very modest. She does so much to help in the shop but acts like it’s nothing. She often looks after the whole shop when we are short staffed and even pops in when she is out doing her shopping to check if we need any help. To me she is completely irreplaceable.”

200th volunteer joins the search for Devon’s Roman history

The 200th volunteer has joined the search for more clues about the Roman occupation of Devon at a major archaeological dig in the county.

Members of the community and experts from the University of Exeter are once again investigating fields near Ipplepen, in South Devon, to discover more about a site occupied by Iron Age, Roman, and early medieval communities who lived more than a thousand years ago.

Christopher Hunt, 34, from Dartmouth has been unemployed for an extended period of time after being diagnosed with stomach cancer. After receiving the all clear, Christopher was keen to get back into the work place.

Action on Hearing Loss award remembers ‘wonderful’ volunteer

A much-loved volunteer for national charity Action on Hearing Loss was posthumously awarded the Passion in Action accolade for her dedication to the cause.

Enid Radford, fondly known as D, has been an information stand volunteer for the charity in Exeter since 2008, but she sadly passed away earlier this year.

The Donkey Sanctuary is welcoming volunteers to its Woodland Management Volunteer Day near Honiton on Saturday 18 February from 10am till 4pm.
