Action on Hearing Loss award remembers ‘wonderful’ volunteer

A much-loved volunteer for national charity Action on Hearing Loss was posthumously awarded the Passion in Action accolade for her dedication to the cause.

Enid Radford, fondly known as D, has been an information stand volunteer for the charity in Exeter since 2008, but she sadly passed away earlier this year.

As a hearing aid user for many years, Enid had a real passion for spreading the charity’s messages about hearing loss, deafness and tinnitus to the wider public.

At Action on Hearing Loss’ Volunteer Awards 2017, an award was presented to Enid’s sister, Vera Robertson, by the charity’s Regional Volunteer Manager John McCormack.

John said: “D had a wonderful manner with people she met at information events. While consistently friendly and helpful she was also very determined to get over the message about addressing hearing loss and she used those same communication skills when addressing health and care service providers. She was truly an great asset for our outreach information service.”

On the day of the award ceremony, the charity held an information stand at Exeter Library to  honour Enid’s achievements and enable many of her local friends to see the award.

Action on Hearing Loss (formerly RNID) is the national charity helping people confronting deafness, tinnitus and hearing loss to live the life they choose. Action on Hearing Loss enables them to take control of their lives and remove the barriers in their way, giving people support and care, developing technology and treatments, and campaigning for equality.
