If you are using your vehicle for the first time in a while this May bank holiday, Highways England Traffic Officer Dave Harford has some important advice.

Some cars have been rarely used in recent months, so it’s essential to make sure they’re fit for purpose. You may also feel out of practice if you haven’t driven recently.

Any vehicle that hasn’t been on the road for some time will need a thorough check to ensure it is roadworthy and safe and now is a good time to give your car a spring clean and make sure it’s ready.

East Devon District Council (EDDC) is busily preparing for the next stages in the Governments’ pandemic roadmap aimed at easing the country towards a less restrictive way of life in the coming months.

From Monday, 29 March people have been able to:

  • Meet outside in groups of up to six people and up to two households including in private gardens.
  • Use outdoor sports courts, areas and pools, including skatepark.

The South West’s tourist industry and the emergency services are warning visitors against travelling to the region before lockdown measures are due to be relaxed on 12th April.

There are fears a minority of tourists might be tempted to travel early, before facilities are ready or attractions are open. Apart from the risk of catching or spreading COVID-19, a dangerous 'false start' to the tourist season will put unnecessary extra strain on the emergency services.

Tourism businesses, public health and local authorities from across the South of England have banded together in a broad partnership to produce guidance for visitors about COVID19.

A ‘tourist charter’ has been devised by the group, which is based on the experiences of the Isle of Wight’s recent test and trace pilot.

Devon County Council has sent an all-party message to holidaymakers and second home owners: Stay away from the South West during the current crisis.

And the council is calling for much tougher penalties to be imposed on people who flout the rules.

The iconic Seaton Jurassic heritage centre has been shortlisted for a record six prestigious building and planning awards for its astonishing and forward-thinking design.

The centre, which was designed by Plymouth-based firm Form Design, was opened last year and has since had 50,000 visitors to the site.
