Thank You For the Music celebrates 40 years of Dancing Queen

The world’s longest-running ABBA concert show is coming to Torquay to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Swedish super group’s biggest selling hit, Dancing Queen.

The event will take place on 27 August 7.30pm at Torquay’s Princess Theatre.

The song was a million-selling, number-one hit in 13 countries and it forms the climax to the international hit stage show Thank You for the Music.

The production, which also features the UK’s most successful Bee Gees revue, is now in its 23rd year.

Man charged with Devon murder

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a 30-year-old woman in Paignton on Thursday 23 June 2016.

Toryino Williams, 22, of Winner Street, Paignton, has been charged with the murder of Agnieszka Malgorzata Szymura.

He appeared before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 25 June and was remanded in custody to appear at Exeter Crown Court on Monday 27 June.

Agnieszka’s next of kin has been informed.

Devon man dies in cycling accident in America

A Devon man has died in a cycling accident in America.

Adam Pritchard, 35, from Torquay, had been visiting family in the Des Moines area.

Reports say he was identified after his 12-year-old sister, who had been riding along a trail with him, approached officers attending the scene of the incident.

Police were called to the scene at around 2.15pm local time on Thursday and found a man in cycling clothes and helmet face down in the creek.

Man dies after car overturns in East Devon

A man has died after his car left the road and overturned in a field at Honiton this morning [27 April].

Emergency services were called at 8am after his vehicle was found in a field off the old A30 near to the showground at Fenny Bridges.

The driver, thought to be aged 50 and from Torquay, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin has been informed and police await formal identification.

Body confirmed as missing Rose Polge

Following formal identification, officers have confirmed the woman’s body recovered from the Dorset coast on Friday 1 April is that of missing Torbay Hospital junior doctor Rose Polge.

A police spokesman said Rose’s family have been informed and they request their privacy at this very difficult time.

The 25-year-old was reported missing from Torquay on Friday 12 February.

Rose’s car was found in Anstey’s Cove just after 6pm that day and officers from in and around the Torbay area were involved in searches to locate her, as well as Coastguard, RNLI and Dartmoor...

Following formal identification, the lorry driver who died as a result of the collision which closed the A38 near Exeter on Saturday morning (9th April) has been named as Andrew Small, 32, from Torquay.

Hundreds of original paintings will go on display at the Devon Art Society ´s spring exhibition at St. Annes Hall, Babbacombe. There are classical themes covering floral, still-life, figurative and landscape as well as seascape subject matters and some abstracts too. The Devon Art Society of Torquay was founded in 1912 and has a long tradition of exhibiting and selling high quality paintings.
