If you’re looking for a wet and wild fun-filled day out then Splashdown Quaywest in Paignton is, without a doubt, the place to head for.

I took my son Sam and his friend Charlie, both 10, for the day recently, and they had had an absolutely fantastic time.

The park offers eight flume rides including the Devil’s Drop - a heart-stopping ride for thrill seekers, the Wild Kamikaze, Tumbling Tyres and The Screamer. For younger children there’s the Submarine Splash and Tiddler fun pool.

A Devon-based company is on course for a record-breaking year with hundreds of students heading to Devon in the coming weeks.

As the World Cup reaches the next exciting stages, The Training Partnership Limited (TTPL) is welcoming over a hundred students and graduates from Germany, France, Italy and Spain, and close to 300 arrivals in total by the end of July.

More companies in Devon are partnering with TTPL to provide work placement opportunities, and more host families are needed to offer accommodation in Exeter, Torbay and across South Devon.

Torquay Pavillons could be moved onto an island in £40m development

A £40 million plan to move Torquay pavilions onto an Island in the middle of the town inner harbour has received some criticism from locals.

The ambitious plan has been floated as an alternative to a luxury hotel development expected to submit for planning permission shortly before Christmas.

The plans have been drawn up by residents supported by Mark Hoyle, Brian Lewis and Julie Brandon from Torquay Town Centre Community Partnership.

The residents suggest constructing an island and then using a crane to move the pavilion onto it.

Motorcyclist dies after collision with a car in Paignton

Police were called to a road traffic collision which occurred just prior 2am this morning (Sunday 4 August) on Kings Ash Road in Paignton. The collision occurred between a small hatchback car and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, a 19-year-old man from Buckfast, was treated by paramedics who attended the scene and medical staff at Torbay hospital but tragically died later this morning.

Local Transport Board invites comments on draft programme

Consultation on major transport schemes proposed for the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership area (Devon, Somerset, Plymouth and Torbay) will continue for the next fortnight.

The Heart of the South West Local Transport Board (LTB) will manage the funding to be devolved from the Department for Transport for major local transport schemes. It has been allocated an indicative sum of around £40.6 million over four years.

South West Water's extra investment programme to be funded from efficiency savings

South West Water today (Thursday 23 May) announced an extra investment programme to protect bathing water quality at key tourist beaches, maintain nearly six million metres of sewers and help customers in the most need. This investment will be funded from efficiency savings in the company's current five year programme and will not impact on average household bills which will fall in 2013/14 following the Government's £50 reduction implemented in April.

Devon Faiths Training for Major Incidents

More than 70 volunteers from seven different churches and six other faith and belief traditions have now been trained to be able to respond in the event of a major emergency in Devon, Plymouth or Torbay. The Devon Faiths Response Team (DFRT) recently held a further training workshop at County Hall, Exeter at which participants heard from South Devon Coroner Ian Arrow and trauma specialist Liz Deane. Man arrested on suspicion of murder in Torquay

A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Torquay. Police were called to a property in Shelley Avenue at 6.40am today (6 March) and discovered the body of a 54-year-old woman. The man has been taken to Torbay District Hospital but remains in police custody.

A police investigation is underway and scenes of crime officers are conducting an examination of the property today. The cause of death has yet to be established and next of kin have not yet been informed.

Police seek this man after elderly lady's purse stolen

Police are appealing to the public to help them identify a man who detectives would like to speak to in connection with the theft of a purse, belonging to an elderly lady.

It is understood that the victim, who is from the Teigmouth area, lost her purse on Thursday 6th December.

Police believe the man pictured in the CCTV may have some information that could help their enquiry.

Cash withdrawals and transactions were carried out using the stolen bank cards in Teignmouth and in Torquay.
