Theatre of Dreams inspiring creative kids this half term

As children, artists Tracy Whitbread and Hannah Stevens were both shaped and nourished by painting, crafts, stories and theatre, and as adults they want to offer these enriching and empowering activities to primary school age children in Arts workshops based around their portable mini-theatre, called the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

Exeter theatre takes award-winning Bunnies to London

The Bike Shed Theatre in Exeter has been awarded Arts Council funding to tour to Bristol, Salisbury and London.

The award-winning play Bunnies – which will tour from the end of October – was written specially for the Bike Shed by young playwright Kieran Lynn. It was first performed in the Theatre last year and received a Peter Brook Empty Space Award.

The tour will help the Bike Shed develop links with other venues and national companies, raising their profile across the country.

The Mysterious Vanishment of Pobby and Dingan

Adapted from the short story, Pobby and Dingan , by Ben Rice, The Mysterious Vanishment of Pobby and Dingan will be coming to the Northcott Theatre this Sunday and is recommended for children of nine and over. The Stage said of it "This Tasmanian writer has a quirky, audacious, wonderfully unfettered way of looking at life'.

The storyline is based around Kellyanne’s best friends, Pobby and Dingan. Her big brother Ashmol hates them. They’re invisible and they make her act weird. Everyone thinks she’s a fruitloop and it’s no fun having a fruitloop for a sister in Lightning Ridge....

Exeter Phoenix 48hr Film Challenge opens Friday

Want to try making a film? Now’s your chance! Exeter Phoenix is challenging all budding filmmakers to create, shoot and edit a film in the space of just 48 hours. No experience is necessary – just a good imagination and a free weekend.

On Friday 9 November film-makers, either individually or as part of a team, will receive a brief which will include a theme, a prop and a sentence which must be incorporated into their film. Entrants then have until the evening of Sunday 11 November to plan, shoot and edit a film no longer than 5 minutes.

After a sold-out performance of The Tempest in October 2016, Untold Theatre return to the Cygnet Theatre in January 2017 with an exciting new production.

A group of deaf actors in Exeter will be given the chance to perform Shakespeare in a fresh way, thanks to a donation from the region’s leading housebuilder.

PaddleBoat Theatre Company has formed a relationship with the Royal Academy for Deaf Education in Exeter. PaddleBoat has now received a £1,000 grant from Persimmon Homes South West to help offer new performance opportunities to students at the Deaf Academy.
