A University of Exeter Business School student will aim to swim across Lake Geneva later this month in a money and awareness-raising feat of endurance for charity.

A sponsored swimming challenge which raises vital funds for leading charity Diabetes UK returns this spring – and a call has gone out for people from Devon to sign up.

Swim22 runs between 22 March and 22 June and involves swimming a total of 22 miles –the same distance as the English Channel. Participants can take on the challenge at their own pace, in their local pool or the open water, accumulating the miles across the course of the 12 weeks.

On a warm sunny Saturday evening on the 27th August, 48 intrepid swimmers bared all in aid of the mental health charity MIND Devon.

After nervously assembling on the poolside, at the allotted hour of 7.30pm the gathered group all dropped their towels and jumped naked and costume-free into the beautifully warm water of the Topsham Lido.

People from Devon are being invited to dive into a sponsored swimming challenge and raise vital funds for Diabetes UK.

Exeter student’s brave Channel efforts for children’s lifesaving swim

Driven by her passion to help save young lives, a university student from Exeter will attempt to complete one of the most gruelling feats of human endeavour when she swims the English Channel in aid of the Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA).

Twenty-year-old Lily Collins-Board from Rockbeare will be one of seven swimmers who make up the Water Warriors team. The team will gather on the Dover shores this June and will be joined by a further four teams in the charity challenge to navigate the 22.5-mile stretch as a relay - in an effort to raise vital funds for the lifesaving service....

Zoo keepers at Living Coasts in Torquay are teaching a tiny seal pup how to swim.

She had to be hand reared because her mother Grace was unable to produce milk. Now, keeper Libor Mach has taken to the water to give her swimming lessons.

Friends take on the Channel Swim in local pool

Two friends from Exeter, Suzanne Lovelace and Sadie Evans, landlady at The Royal Oak, St Thomas, are taking on the ‘Channel Challenge’ throughout February to raise money for local charity, Hospiscare.

The English Channel stretches 21 miles between Dover and Calais and the friends will be swimming the equivalent distance at local pool The Riverside, covering 1,408 lengths each.
