Our 8 part comedy workshop, 'An introduction to stand-up comedy' will guide you through your first steps in the stand-up comedy world.

The workshop will help to develop and blend together the unique material, style and persona of each participant as they produce a short and tight set of stand-up comedy. Over the eight sessions you will explore a range of essential comedic performance skills and techniques and build confidence and self-awareness within the performance space.

Tony Hawks is well-known for his appearances on the Radio 4 shows ‘Just a Minute’ and ‘I’m sorry I haven’t got a clue’ among others. However, he is also a best-selling author, stand-up comedian, and now a film maker, producing the film versions of his own best-selling books ‘Round Ireland with a Fridge’ and ‘Playing the Moldovians at Tennis’.

Robin Ince at the Phoenix - An Evening of Entertainment and Education

As part of the fantastic Exeter Phoenix autumn programme, Robin Ince came to visit.

The auditorium was packed, so it's a good thing the Phoenix staff came up trumps to offer an alternative solution when Ince's laptop died. As a fan of stand-up, I found it unusual that a laptop was a necessary part of the show, but Ince makes it so and does a marvellous job of using a slide show as a visual prop to his verbal material.
