Preston Street Union: 13 October - 7 November

As part of his residency at Spacex artist and independent curator Trevor Pitt is setting up Preston Street Union - PSU an affiliation of artists from in and around Exeter that will come together over a five week period to explore collaboration as a strategy for artists making things and making things happen.

PSU will draw on and extend elements from Pitt’s previous project Cannon Hill Art School, and reference the work of influential artist and educator Josef Albers.

Make A Salad 12 September

In 1962 artist Alison Knowles first performed Make a Salad.

A simple action inspired by Alison, we’ll be using her recipe to make a big salad. We'll make enough to feed everybody and use a tarpaulin as a mixing bowl. If you are not a fan of salad there will also be sandwich-making and waffles and ice cream!

Artist Rosalie Schweiker will work with Spacex to imagine a future art institution. Users of Spacex, from artists and community groups to the wider public are invited Drink & Think.

Following on from our many formal and informal discussions about the future of art institutions, we'll be hosting a pub crawl in Exeter.

As we walk from pub to pub, we'll be scribbling ideas on beer mats and meet local culture producers along the way. Meet at Spacex at 7.30pm. This event is for 18+ only. Some parts of the pub crawl might be recorded for a radio programme.

Spacex crowdfunding success

Spacex, Exeter’s contemporary visual arts organisation, has successfully raised £10,000 to support its new artists residency programme.

Hundreds of people have donated money to the campaign, and in return will receive artworks, posters and publications.

Help Spacex to reach Kickstarter target

Spacex thanks go out to those who have continued to share, tweet and get others involved in their Kickstarter campaign.

Spacex, Exeter’s acclaimed contemporary visual art organisation, is at a challenging yet exciting point in its forty year history.

After temporary closure in response to funding cuts, the organisation has transformed the way it works.

Spacex enters an exciting new era

Spacex, an internationally renowned contemporary art organisation, based on Preston Street, Exeter, has this week shared its plans on how it is hoping to take the organisation into a new and exciting phase.
