My journey from insomnia to sleep

Before the course started

This evening I start my first session of insomnia treatment with Stephanie Romiszewski who is a Sleep Physiologist at the Sleepyhead Clinic in Exeter. I am both excited and nervous as I begin this journey into the unknown, a little sceptical, as nothing I have tried in the past has made the slightest bit of difference to aid my sleep, not even sleeping tablets and I have believed, for quite some time now, that I am beyond help.

First, let me tell you a bit about myself. I am 44, happily married, with a beautiful 8-year-old son who is my world. I...

5 habits that age you prematurely

Here are five habits that are said to age you... How many can you change?

1) Unfortunately, stress can become a very unhealthy habit in all our lives. If you are in the habit of being stressed out over some relatively small things, then know that over time you won’t be able to perform any task without losing it completely. Stress is known to shrink areas of the brain that are responsible of your mood, memory, and learning; ultimately making you feel older.

2) Remember that you are not in college anymore, and it isn’t healthy to have little sleep on a daily basis. You are...

10 Reasons You Should Be Doing Yoga

#1 - Doing Yoga is a Great Workout

The main thing that yoga will offer you is a great workout and a very good way to lead a healthy lifestyle. If you aren’t used to doing physical exercises, then you might not know that many fitness coaches recommend that you do yoga on a weekly basis at least. However, it is not as easy as you might think; doing quality yoga actually takes a lot of strength and endurance, but you can easily get better at it over time if you exercise regularly.

#2 – Yoga Helps You Sleep Better

You probably know that yoga makes your brain much calmer...

Top 8 Fastest Ways To Lose Fat

#1 – Interval Training

All cardio training is not equal. Whilst any form of exercise is better than none at all, studies have repeatedly shown that interval training is more effective for weight loss that steady state cardio. That is, you will burn more body fat overall by running fast for one minute, steady for two minutes and repeating several times than you will if you run at a steady pace for the duration of your workout. You don’t have to limit this approach to running either – you can adopt it on the bike, rowing machine, X-trainer, in a circuit class etc. The bottom line:...

How To Fake The Look of a Good Night's Sleep

We all have nights where beauty sleep is hard to come by. If you wake up not only feeling but also looking exhausted, fret not. A quick cup of coffee or two may cure the former, but the latter can also be dealt with easily. Just make sure you have the right products on hand and you can transform from ghost to gorgeous in no time.

1. Exfoliate. One of the quickest ways to revive dull skin and pep up the complexion is to exfoliate. Exfoliating rids the skin of dead skin cells, creating a smoother, more glowing base.

2. Moisturise. Tired skin can look dull and grey; a touch of...

Back to school tips for teens

Back to school means getting into a routine so that your skin looks its best. Sure, it will take some work but you can't expect to eat junk and suddenly wake up to a ravishing complexion! Here are a few tips to keep in mind while you embark on your studies. 1. Wash your face with an acne-fighting cleanser twice in the morning and twice in the evening and each time you sweat, such as after the gym. Just be sure to follow with a moisturiser since removing too much oil can result in your skin overproducing oil to compensate breaking you out further! A moisturiser specifically geared...

Beauty Sleep is Not a Myth

According to a sleep study from 2010 at a sleep laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden, people who were sleep deprived were rated less healthy and less dishy than those who got a good night's sleep! So how many hours of sleep is best? Adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep, while teens and babies need more. During deep sleep, our skin's metabolic rate and the body's cells show higher production rates and the breakdown of proteins decrease. Proteins are the building blocks of our skin cells, so if they're chuffed and flourishing, so is our skin! If your hubby thinks...
