Welcome reception for holiday park guests

A celebration with a traditional Devonshire cream tea marked the opening of a popular East Devon holiday park’s new reception area.

The work at Oakdown Touring & Holiday Caravan Park, which is located outside Sidmouth, took five months to complete and employed 20 local tradespeople.

The new reception, which was officially opened by Neil Parish MP, is now ready to welcome guests to the park for the 2017 holiday season. The park’s café has also been refurbished as part of the improvement work.

Interpretation panels developed for East Devon parks

History of much loved East Devon parks and gardens will be captured for posterity thanks to Heritage Lottery Fund award of £9,500

Interpretation panels for each of East Devon District Council’s eight parks and gardens are currently being developed by the council using information provided by local museums and local community members/groups. East Devon’s in-house design team are currently producing these ready for installation this spring.

A joint project run between Sidmouth Town Council and East Devon District Council will soon see Sidmouth getting a new sports facility, as work is due to start in Spring 2017 on a new outdoor multi-use games area for the town.

Sidmouth residents originally had their say on how to spend £250,000 on outdoor sports in the town a few years ago – seven projects were successful – most of which have happened now. Plans drawn up for footbridge to replace Alma Bridge

Plans for a new footbridge in Sidmouth to replace Alma Bridge have been drawn up by Devon County Council.

The County Council will be presenting its designs for a 22-metre span bridge to Sidmouth Town Council on Monday 6 March as it looks to conduct initial consultations with stakeholders, including East Devon District Council, South West Water and Environment Agency. The authority will also be carrying out investigation work early next month, with geotechnical inspections of the east cliffs being conducted at the potential location for the bridge. Concern for missing 30-year-old

Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of a 30-year-old female from the Sidmouth area called Tanya Vickery.

Tanya was last seen at approximately 22:40 hours on Tuesday 7th February on the Esplanade in Sidmouth near to The Marine pub from where she made her way onto the beach and has not been seen since.

Tanya is described as a white female, slim build, 5 ft 5 inches tall with black straight shoulder length hair, she was last seen wearing a white puffer jacket.

Around 600 tons of shingle, which Storm Angus deposited at School Weir on the River Sid in Sidmouth, is being redistributed by East Devon District Council across the beach at the eastern end of Sidmouth, adjacent to the fishermen’s area, courtesy of the Environment Agency (EA), which is responsible for the weir.

Situated at the southern end of the Byes, School Weir helps protect Sidmouth from flooding via the River Sid and the sediment that has accrued there would otherwise have been deposited on Sidmouth’s beach around the mouth of the River Sid.
