South West Prays – Christians watch online this Easter Sunday

In what is a first for the region - Christian leaders across the whole of the South West are taking part in special online prayer event this Easter Sunday.

When to call 999 this Christmas

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) is urging people only to call 999 this Christmas if someone is seriously ill or injured, or their life is at risk.

Demand for the ambulance service is likely to peak over the next two weeks when staff are expecting to respond to more than 3,000 calls a day.

Paramedics and Control Room staff warn that unnecessary calls over the festive period could delay responses to those patients most in need of emergency help.

New extended bus service to Exeter Quayside

A new trial weekend bus service to Exeter’s Quayside is set to begin early next month. As part of a six-month trial, the H service will stop at the Quayside on Friday and Saturday evenings between 7pm and 11pm and on Sundays from 8:30am and 11pm. The trial service will begin on Friday 6 July. Equipment and children’s toys collected for firefighters, their families and the wider community on the hurricane-stricken British Virgin Islands will be delivered in time for Christmas. Firefighters call for cuts to agenda to be dropped on anniversary of Cathedral Yard fire

On the anniversary of the blaze that ripped through the historic Cathedral Yard area of Exeter last October, firefighters in the region are calling for an end to dangerous fire service cuts. The fire caused massive damage before being extinguished, and placed huge demands on the resources of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service who sent 150 firefighters to put the fire out.

An on-call firefighter at Danes Castle will be taking part in the Trans-America Bike Race in June 2018 to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity and Wooden Spoon Devon.

The race involves cycling 4,300 miles across 10 US states in around a month.

Brian Murray retired as Chief Fire Officer from Highlands and Islands Fire Service in 2010 after a 30-year career, having served in numerous brigades and at the Fire Service College.
