Great West Run: A cathartic event for Emma

On Sunday 15 October 2017 thousands of runners took part in the Great West Run half marathon in Exeter and amongst them was a team of runners from Hospiscare.

TeamHospiscare35 was initiated by Dr Becky Baines and Dr Jenny Hayes. Both work at Hospiscare and wanted friends, families, colleagues and supporters to run together to celebrate the organisation’s 35th anniversary, raise awareness and fundraise on behalf of the local charity.

One member of the team, Emma Gray, 40 from East Devon, had a very personal reason for running with TeamHospiscare35.

Health and wellbeing charity puts best foot forward for the Great West Run

EXETER health and wellbeing charity the CITY Community Trust is standing by its values and has 30 runners training for the Great West Run – the largest team from one single organisation to take part in this year’s race.

And the charity is supporting two other causes – Exeter Sports Fund and Children’s Hospice South West.

The CITY Community Trust (CCT), which works in partnership with Exeter City Football Club, delivers health, education, wellbeing and physical activity programmes to more than 45,000 members of the community every year.

Lots of family fun at the Hospiscare Breakfast Run!

Hundreds of pyjama-clad runners, joggers and walkers from across Devon turned up at glorious Knightshayes near Tiverton on Sunday 17th September to take part in the Hospiscare Breakfast Run. The novelty event which featured a 5 or 10k route attracted runners from all age groups and abilities, with 482 people joining in to raise much-needed funds for local charity Hospiscare.

The participants enjoyed an off road course with some challenging inclines and were rewarded for their efforts at the end with a delicious breakfast from the Stables Kitchen.

James Cracknell to lead run through Exeter

After unexpectedly losing his sister to an accident in 2003 then his brother from cancer in 2010, Iain MacDougall has decided to raise £10,000 for the organisations that looked after his siblings in their final days.

In order to get fit and raise money, Iain chose this year to start running. But this isn’t just your average fitness regime. Iain decided that he wanted to quite literally go that extra mile and spend two years working his way up to running a full marathon. Along the way he will be running 5k and 10k races and a half marathon.

Heavitree community enjoys run away success

With New Year’s resolutions of better health and fitness for 2017 firmly in focus, an astonishing 65 Exeter residents turned up in the first week of January to try out a new Couch to 5k beginner running group in Heavitree.

On Monday, one week on, nearly 100 people came along and joined in.

The running group was set up by Park Life Heavitree, a community organisation based in and around Heavitree Pleasure Ground. They were granted funding to provide new opportunities for residents in Heavitree to be active, by Get Active Exeter, the local health and wellbeing partnership...

New women only marathon announced for Devon

A new women-only marathon has been announced for Devon in 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of a famous incident which helped pave the way for women to be able to officially take part in marathons.

The Women Can marathon on 28 May 2017 is almost entirely off-road, taking in the breathtaking Otter and Sid Valleys and part of the South West Coast Path on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in East Devon.

Largely rural, the course also includes picturesque Devon villages and the towns of Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary.

Cartridges Law sponsor Bowhill Running Club

Cartridges Law are sponsoring Bowhill Running Club which was set up in April 2015 to provide a running group that would help get parents active, this was supported by Exeter City Football Club and Active Devon.

They started with a beginners group and used the couch to 5k programme for their members, the aim was to get as many of the parents together as possible to support each other to becoming more active.
