Exeter Chiefs 44 Cardiff Blues 29

Mark Stevens reporting from Sandy Park

A first half masterclass from the Exeter Chiefs gave them the perfect start to this season’s Heineken Cup as they blew away visiting Cardiff Blues at Sandy Park.

Rob Baxter’s side ran in five tries – four of them in the opening 40 minutes – to ensure maximum reward against the Welsh region, whose improved display after the break did at least glean them a try bonus point.

Skipper Dean Mumm, Matt Jess, Fetu’u Vainikolo, Ben White and Ian Whitten all crossed for tries, while Gareth...

Chiefs serve up a season’s best display to sink the Cherry & Whites on their own path

Gloucester 12 Exeter Chiefs 29

What a difference a week makes... Following a disappointing performance seven days earlier against Leicester Tigers, Exeter Chiefs produced the perfect response at Kingsholm to re-ignite their Aviva Premiership charge against hosts Gloucester.

In a sublime Sunday showing, Rob Baxter’s side served up a season’s best display to sink the Cherry & Whites on their own path. Aussies Ben White and Dean Mumm – just as they had done at London Irish earlier in the campaign – again got on the try-sheet, whilst fly-half Gareth Steenson weighed in with...

Exeter Chiefs players get a bit fruity

Members of the Exeter Chiefs’ squad put their business brains to the test recently when they visited local drinks manufacturer Frobishers. The players were challenged to create a new juice drink and come up with a marketing strategy to present in a ‘Dragons' Den’ style pitch to senior members of the Frobishers team. The day was part of the RPA’s (Rugby Players’ Association) Player Development Programme which aims to individually assist players in their personal and professional development, helping them to identify a second career and providing them with skills for a smooth transition into...

Exeter Chiefs name side to face the Tigers on Sunday

Rob Baxter knows all too well there is no hiding place when it comes to the Aviva Premiership and Sunday's visit of reigning champions Leicester Tigers to Sandy Park offers him and his Exeter Chiefs squad a formidable weekend work-out. After successive league wins over London Wasps and London Irish, the Chiefs have spent this past week readying themselves for what will be a key date in their seasonal programme. The Tigers, like the Chiefs, have recorded two wins from three starts so far this term and will arrive in Devon looking to keep pace with unbeaten leaders Saracens at the summit....

Chiefs flanker Ben White targets the Tigers

Aussie flanker Ben White says Exeter Chiefs cannot wait to get stuck into Leicester Tigers in their latest Aviva Premiership encounter this Sunday (2pm). Buoyed by back-to-back league wins over London Wasps and London Irish, the Chiefs are now busy preparing themselves for the visit of the defending champions to Sandy Park. It's a fixture which is sure to test the credentials of the Devon club - particularly given the currently visitors sit second in the standings - but White says recent form has given him and his team-mates a real belief they can topple Richard Cockerill's men. “The...

Rob Baxter praises Chiefs' character

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter praised the character of his team as they claimed their first away victory of the season with a 29-23 success at London Irish.

Training 23-12 with just 20 minutes remaining, the Chiefs produced a sterling fightback thanks to tries from skipper Dean Mumm and Ben White to ensure they were able to follow up last week's home win over London Wasps.

Fly-half Gareth Steenson converted both those scores, as well as adding five penalties, to give him a 19 point haul that took past 1,000 league points for the Devon club.

In reply, Irish...

Chiefs secure narrow home win over Wasps

Exeter Chiefs 30 London Wasps 26

Report by Mark Stevens

Exeter Chiefs are up and running following their home win over London Wasps, but head coach Rob Baxter knows his side will have to do better if they want to be in and around the top end of the Aviva Premiership.

After losing their opening fixture of the season at Northampton Saints, the Chiefs responded in fine fashion at Sandy Park as tries from Tom James (2) and James Scaysbrook, together with 15 points from the boot of Gareth Steenson proved enough to condemn Wasps to a second successive defeat.

Chiefs skipper disappointed with loss

by Mark Stevens

New skipper Dean Mumm bemoaned a poor first half showing as Exeter Chiefs kicked off the new Aviva Premiership season with a disappointing 38-11 defeat at Northampton Saints.

In a one-sided first 40 minutes at Franklin's Gardens, the impressive Saints ran riot as they claimed a try bonus point inside 36 minutes thanks to touchdowns from Dylan Hartley, Tom Wood, Ken Pisi and George Pisi.

Although the Chiefs improved greatly after the break - claiming a try through Mumm himself - the home side had the final word when replacement Samu Manoa crossed from...

Chiefs side to face Northampton Saints

After weeks of detailed preparation, the waiting is finally over and the time has come for Exeter Chiefs to once again venture into the heat of battle in the Aviva Premiership. First up for Rob Baxter's Class of 2013/14 is a daunting opening test against Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens tomorrow (3pm). It is, however, a fixture that is sure to whet the appetite of everyone associated with the Chiefs, who will be looking to claim the scalp of the East Midlanders for the first time on their own patch. In three previous top flight meetings at the Gardens, the best Baxter's side have...
