3,000 mile solo row across the Atlantic Ocean

Good day to you all.

In December 2023 I am setting off to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean solo.

I will be rowing 2 hours on and 2 hours off 24 hours a day for up to 90 days.

Previous rowers have suffered hallucinations from sleep deprivation and I am sure I will have salt sores on my hands, feet and derrière. In last year's challenge several boats capsized (although the boat is designed to self right) and some had their hulls pierced by Blue Marlin ( swordfish) hunting Tuna.

I am using this platform to raise monies for my two chosen charities...

Two Devon women attempting a world best have linked up with SeaSports Southwest in their quest to become the fastest female pair to row across the Atlantic Ocean.

University of Exeter Masters Medicine students Rosie Alterman and Charlie Fleurywill launch their attempt at the 2020 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge starting in December, aiming to beat the current best of 50 days.

The adventurous pair who have also worked together in Royal Devon and Exeter’s Accident and Emergency department will be known as the Emergensea Girls for the 3000 mile test of endurance.

Devon's rowers finish Atlantic challenge to build plastic-free legacy

Row for the Ocean has completed the world's toughest row to raise awareness of ocean plastic pollution for South West charity Surfers Against Sewage.

The four-woman team, three of whom belong to Exeter Rowing Club, were the first all-female crew to reach the finish line of the 2018/19 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

With 3,000 miles behind them, the ocean adventurers arrived in Antigua after 43 days, 2 hours and 20 minutes at sea.

With World Oceans Day on the horizon this Friday, the four women behind Exeter’s ‘Row for the Ocean’ team are urging people to help them reach their £10,000 crowdfunding target as the campaign enters its final week.

Kirsty Barker, Rosalind Holsgrove-West, Kate Salmon, and Laura Try launched their Crowdfunder in May in the final push to fund their transatlantic challenge in December. Devon businessman Mark Sealey and Army veteran Alan Bustin-Mulkern have launched the boat that will carry them right the way through the world’s toughest rowing race – the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

With the aim of raising huge amounts for blood-delivery charity Devon Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service (EVS) – also known as the Blood Bikes – Alan and Mark launched their boat for the colossal challenge at the Royal Western Yacht Club in Plymouth.

Our local Ocean Rowing team Row For The Ocean, are taking on an additional challenge to their upcoming 3000 mile row across the Atlantic in December 2018.

Fourth place in World Rowing Junior Championships for Exeter School pupil

Exeter School Sixth Former Phoebe Campbell has taken fourth place in the World Rowing Junior Championships.

The Upper Sixth Former represented the GB Rowing Team at the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships held in Trakai, Lithuania in August. The crew trained together at Pangbourne and Caversham before flying out to Lithuania three days before the competition. The City of Exeter Rowing Regatta takes place on Saturday 8 July on Exeter Quay this year for a full day of sprint races.

Paul Wilson, Exeter Regatta Chairman said: ‘There are over 140 races and 234 crews at this years’ regatta, including an open eight charity event for Rowcroft hospice at 5:45pm.

Four women who rowed 8,000 miles from the San Francisco in the United States to Cairns in Australia unsupported will share their remarkable story at a film screening and question and answer session at the University of Exeter on Wednesday May 17 2017.

The Coxless Crew ( http://coxlesscrew.com/ ), as they are collectively known, spent nine months – or 281 days – at sea in a 29 foot rowing boat called Doris, facing extreme mental and physical challenges. They raised over £65,000 for Walking With the Wounded and Breast Cancer Care.
