Forget Tom Top Gun Cruise – you can meet a real life Maverick when the former leader of the RAF’s most famous unit comes to Exeter.

Wing Commander Simon Meade O.B.E. is the former Commanding Officer and Team Leader of the Red Arrows Aerobatic Display Team.

He will be giving a talk and special presentation at Exeter School on Friday March 31 (7:30) to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity.

Record weekend for Exeter Airport’s XLR executive jet centre

Exeter Airport’s XLR executive jet centre has reported one of its busiest ever weekends after the airport hosted a clutch of executive jets for the UEFA Champions League final in Cardiff and fleets of aircraft for the Torbay Air Show.

XLR usually handles three or four corporate aircraft a day on average, but over the weekend had 25. This included eight corporate jets used to ferry VIP guests to the UEFA Champions League final after all available spaces at Cardiff and Bristol Airports were taken. The aircraft came from Russia, Spain, Belgium and Italy.

First Great Western have named one of their high speed trains in celebration of the Red Arrows’ 50th display season.

The power is named “Red Arrows: 50 Seasons of Excellence” . The train naming, which took place at Exeter St David’s Station, celebrated the start of the 2014 Dawlish Air Show and marks a significant milestone for the Red Arrows.

The award-winning Dawlish Air Show attracts over 80,000 people each year, all keen to bask in the glory of the coastline and enjoy the spectacular displays.

The organisers of Dawlish Air Show have confirmed that the Red Arrows will be appearing at this year’s show.

The Red Arrows, who celebrate their 50th season this year, are the first display team to be announced in what is promising to be another spectacular event.

Last year around 100,000 people basked in the glorious Devon sunshine and enjoyed a varied and thrilling day of flying which featured a Eurofighter Typhoon, Vulcan and Pitts Special.
