RBL seeks new Poppy Appeal organisers in Devon

The Royal British Legion is seeking new volunteers for this year’s Poppy Appeal in Exeter, Exmouth, Okehampton, Barnstaple, Sidmouth, Chudleigh and Kingsbridge as the RBL celebrates its centenary in 2021, they have approached the Devon Freemasons for help but will still require more manpower. Last year, the RBL lost millions of pounds in donations after face-to-face collections were cancelled for the first time in the charity’s history due to the Covid pandemic. The Royal British Legion has thanked Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, for taking the time to meet with Legion Area Manager, Dymphna Knowles.

Vandals destroy Crediton war memorial wreaths

Police are appealing for witnesses following an act of vandalism on the war memorial in Crediton.

Police were called at 1.15am on Monday 10 November after a member of the public witnessed two youths setting fire to the wreaths placed at the war memorial.

The two suspects are described as aged around 14-15, one male and one female, both wearing hooded tops and were seen running from scene towards the park behind the memorial.

Local officers plus a dog unit conducted a search of the area but the suspects weren’t located.

Poppy quilt comes to Killerton

It's your last chance to come and view the beautiful poppy quilt and banner made by the Devon branch of the British Legion in Killerton's atmospheric study. The quilt is made of 50 handmade squares by south west quilters. The quilt will be raffled and the winner will be drawn on Saturday evening.

Details of Exeter's Remembrance Sunday Service announced

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Rachel Lyons, together with the Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Wing Commander Brian Wills-Pope MBE DL and other civic and military dignitaries with a connection to Exeter, will be commemorating Remembrance Sunday on 10 November with an open air service around the War Memorial in Northenhay Gardens.

The Standards as well as representatives from military, ex-service and civil associations will also be in attendance, and all members of the public are welcome to attend.

Stagecoach South West supports 2013 Poppy Appeal

Stagecoach South West is helping to support the Royal British Legion's 2013 Poppy Appeal which honours and remembers service personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The local transport operator is providing poppies for all their staff that choose to wear them with a donation made to the Royal British Legion. It has also donated advertising space inside its buses to help promote the appeal.
