The ever popular band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines of the Commando Training Centre, Lympstone will again provide the musical accompaniment for this event which has a well established place on the Devon calendar.

The Military Wives’ Choir from Chivenor will also be performing.

This annual tribute to Britain’s Armed Forces will include the Traditional Muster of Standards of Devon’s Royal British Legion and Service Associations, as well as representatives of the Armed Forces, cadet forces, youth groups and emergency services. It will end with a short Service of Remembrance, including the two minute silence.

The end of the hostilities in the Korean War in 1953 will be the theme of this year’s festival. Often referred to as the “Forgotten War”, nearly 100,000 British servicemen, many of whom were National Servicemen, took part in this three year war. More than 1,000 lost their lives, some 3,000 were wounded and just over 1,000 were taken prisoner and suffered appalling privations. Now in their 80s, many survivors are in need of the Royal British Legion’s help.

The guest speaker will be John Hollands, a well known novelllist and resident of Devon, who, as a young national service lieutenant, won the Military Cross during the Korean War.

Tickets: £10, available by calling 01392 272211 or 01837 840757, or on the night.
