Meet Professor Sam Smiles for a tour around the exhibition.

Sam Smiles is Emeritus Professor of Art History, University of Plymouth, and Programme Director, Art History and Visual Culture, University of Exeter. He specialises in the history of British art and has a particular interest in the contribution of Devon and Cornwall to the national picture.

Wood Engraving Demonstration

Informal demonstration: Portraits in Miniature

Electro Swing Valentine Ball with Cabaret Voltaire

RAMM holds a small but interesting collection of archaeological objects collected in Cyprus in the late 19th century.

Dr Thomas Kiely, Curator of Cyprus Collections at the BritishMuseum, will reveal the history of archaeological exploration in Cyprus, and explore how these objects came to Exeter. This research and lecture are funded by the AG Leventis Foundation.

A comment in a donor file has begun an intriguing search involving international commerce during England’s Civil War, silk togs, and a fake letter that may have finished a career... Shelley Tobin, RAMM’s Curator for Costume, reports:

Family treasures

A silk robe and quilted velvet tarboush (hat) were presented to RAMM in 1965 by Miss Mollie Prideaux, who referred to herself as the only surviving member of her family who knew their origin. They had belonged to an ancestor, Edward Barnard, not to be confused with the famous seventeenth-century philosopher and astronomer....
