The legendary racehorse Best Mate will be remembered at Exeter Racecourse next Tuesday when a beginners’ chase is staged in his name.
His owner Jim Lewis will make his annual pilgrimage to the course to present the prize to the winning owners of the race and to lay a wreath in his memory. This season, Newton Abbot Racecourse will be giving horseracing enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the thrill of owning a racehorse with the launch of the first ever Newton Abbot Races Racing Syndicate.
The syndicate’s horse will be purchased in May and will be trained by leading national hunt trainer, Philip Hobbs. Created as an affordable taster to racehorse ownership, membership for one year will cost just £500.
