As Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg reaches a notable milestone on Friday 1 March - 100 days in office - he has reinforced his determination to make a real difference and says he is looking forward to the next 1,000 days, and beyond.

Stolen silverware returned to St Michaels & All Angels in Otterton

A silver chalice and a silver wafer box have been returned to the church from where they were stolen at the end of January 2013. The theft happened between 20 and 24 January at the Church of St Michaels & All Angels in Otterton, East Devon. Two other chalices, a Grimaldi and a Philips, were also stolen from the vestry at the time and these have yet to be recovered. The returned chalices were left in Colaton Raleigh church sometime before 23 February 2013. Car collides with horse on the A380 on Telegraph Hill

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue were called to a road traffic collision on the A380, Telegraph Hill near to Ideford this morning.

One fire appliance was despatched to the incident from Exeter Danes Castle and one from Exeter Middlemoor.

On arrival crews found a single vehicle that had been involved in a collision with a horse. Fire crews report that nobody was trapped within the vehicle. Several horses were on the carriageway and were being looked after by police, whilst the casualties were being cared for by paramedics.

Police appeal for information following Cullompton burglary

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at a house in Cullompton, which took place between 6.15pm and 10.15pm on Saturday, 16 February 2013.

The property was entered and numerous items stolen, including a pair of drop earrings worth £900, a Sharp video camcorder, valued at £200, a red Samsung digital camera, worth £200 and an HP Photosmart Series 420 camera, valued at £179.

Campaign to tackle illegal tobacco trade launches in Devon today

On Monday 25 February 2013, Smokefree South West launch a multi-partnership initiative alongside HMRC, Trading Standards, the Police, Crimestoppers and other enforcement partners, Primary Care Trusts and Local Authorities as part of on-going efforts to tackle the illegal tobacco trade in the South West.

Copplestone woman dies following road traffic collision

A Copplestone woman has died following a road traffic collision on the A377 that occurred last November.

78-year-old Patricia Anne Daniels was the driver of a red Nissan Almera, which was in collision with a silver Volvo C70 on the A377 just before 5pm on Tuesday 27 November 2012 at Barnstaple Cross between Crediton and Copplestone.

Mrs Daniels was taken to hospital following the incident but died on 19 February 2013.

Torquay road closures after suspect device found

Police in Torquay have closed off a section of the town following concerns from officers who attended an address there earlier.

Police have set up a 100 metre cordon in the area of Falloway Close as a precaution following the discovery of an unexplained device in the garden of a property.

The cordon includes Happaway Road and extends as far as, but not including Barton Road.

The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called to the property to assess the situation.

A regional campaign to help make Devon and Cornwall’s roads safer has been hailed as the country’s top public sector campaign by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Local Public Services Group.

The Honest Truth joins up several public bodies with driving schools, providing driving instructors across Devon and Cornwall with free teaching resources to help teach youngsters safer driving habits. The project has also been taken on by the Fire Service in Hertfordshire.
