Devon and Cornwall Police is launching a campaign designed to raise awareness of how domestic abuse can affect anyone and takes many forms.
The campaign will highlight the fact that domestic abuse can happen to anyone, at any age, in any kind of relationship. This phase will be highlighting the fact that domestic abuse can happen among groups such as the elderly, the disabled and same sex couples.
Domestic abuse isn’t just physical and can take many forms, such as intimidation, financial control, psychological abuse and others.
Devon and Cornwall Police is urging the public to think carefully before they contact the police non-emergency 101 service this Christmas and to go online for their answers where possible, and also to remember that inappropriate calls increase waiting times for other callers.
Inappropriate calls and emails to 101 take up the valuable time of the staff in the contact centres when they could be helping those in need. It is vital that all members of the public with genuine enquiries, especially those who are vulnerable, can have their queries or concerns dealt with in a timely fashion...
At around 4pm on Saturday 17 December 2016, police were informed that a collision had taken place involving a tractor that was towing a single axle agricultural trailer close to Harts Farm, Hemyock, close to the Devon, Somerset border (Cullompton area).
A number of passengers were riding on the trailer when one of them fell off and went under the trailer and was run over by one of the trailer’s wheels.
The casualty, a man aged 64 who lives in a nearby village suffered severe abdominal injuries and was airlifted to Derriford hospital in Plymouth.

Police are appealing to the public following a serious collision which left one man with serious injuries.
At approximately 5.47pm on Monday 12 December, a single vehicle collision occurred on the A361 at Crazy Loman Bridge, Tiverton.

Operation Vortex saw officers from the Devon and Cornwall, and Dorset strategic alliance roads policing team out in force on roads between the 14th November and 29th November 2016. During this time around 400 drivers were stopped and dealt with for a variety of traffic offences.
Six unmarked traffic cars were deployed as a team across the strategic road network. Two other teams supported this operation, working alongside the frontline roads policing team: two dedicated Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) analysts and the Safety Camera Partnership Unit.
At around 9.20pm on Monday 5 December 2016 a man armed with a knife, estimated to be around 10” in length, entered the Spar shop on Magdalen Road in Exeter, where he threatened staff and took cash from the till.
The man then left the shop and ran along Magdalen Road, believed to be in the direction of the Mount Radford pub.
There were three members of staff in the shop at the time. All are safe and no-one was injured. No customers were in the store at the actual time of the incident.

Any drivers involved in a collision and any motorists whose driving may lead police to suspect they are under the influence of alcohol will be breathalysed. If drug driving is suspected, drivers may have to undergo a roadside sobriety test.
