Man dies after being restrained by police

Devon and Cornwall Police have reffered an incident to the Police Complaints Commission after a man died in hospital folling an incident in which he was restrained by officers.

The 38-year-old man - died in hospital following an incident in Paignton.

The incident happened at around 9pm on Wednesday 29th April when police were called to a disturbance outside of the bar on the Esplanade in Paignton involving an altercation between two men and door staff.

Man and woman found dead at Devon home

Police are investigating the death of an elderly man and woman in Paignton.

Officers were called to a property in Freshwater Drive following concern for the occupants at 9.45pm on Wednesday 11 March.

Officers entered the property and discovered an elderly man and a woman deceased.

The deaths are being treated as unexplained at this time and the investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

The next of kin and Coroner have been informed.

The fire service attended the property as a precaution and found no signs of a gas leak or carbon monoxide...

Appeal for witnesses following fatal crash

A teenager who was involved in a collision with a car in Paignton has died.

The 16-year-old male pedestrian, a foreign student, suffered serious head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital.

He died in hospital in the early hours of Sunday 7 December. His family have been informed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision that happened at 12.15pm on Saturday 6 December on Great Western Road, on the one-way system outside Paignton train station.

The driver of the silver Vauxhall Vectra, a 42-year-old local man, was uninjured...

Police are appealing for information to help locate a missing Paignton man.

Jonathan Lathey was reported missing from his home in Paignton just before 8am this morning, Friday 19 September.

He is regarded as vulnerable and police are becoming concerned for his welfare.

Jonathan is described as being 32, a white man, 5 ft 11in high with black hair in a pony tail.

If you see Jonathan or have any information regarding his whereabouts please contact police on 101 quoting police reference 156 190914.

Wet and wild fun at Splashdown Quaywest

If you’re looking for a wet and wild fun-filled day out then Splashdown Quaywest in Paignton is, without a doubt, the place to head for.

I took my son Sam and his friend Charlie, both 10, for the day recently, and they had had an absolutely fantastic time.

The park offers eight flume rides including the Devil’s Drop - a heart-stopping ride for thrill seekers, the Wild Kamikaze, Tumbling Tyres and The Screamer. For younger children there’s the Submarine Splash and Tiddler fun pool.

Two double decker buses set on fire in Paignton

Two double decker buses were deliberately set on fire this morning at Paignton Bus Station.

The fire service were called to the incident at 4am, and on their arrival they found two double decker buses well alight.

Crews extinguished the fire using four breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets, one compressed air foam jet, a short extension ladder and small tools.

Both buses were severely damaged by fire and the cause of the fire was deliberate.

Three Devon academies will need new financial sponsorship after the Department of Education (DfE) confirmed the closue of the Prospects Academy Trust.
