Ethical butchers and restaurant Rusty Pig has announced a charity partnership with emergency couriers Devon Freewheelers for 2015.
Chef Robin Rea and his team are busy planning various events to be held at the Ottery St Mary eaterie throughout the year, including quizzes and themed dining.
Robin said: “I’ve been aware of the charity for some time and I really admire the selfless work carried out by the volunteer riders. They do a great job for the people of Devon, and I’m delighted to support them.”
Additionally, Robin is hoping to run a food stand at this year’s...
The Ottery St Mary Cemetery on Higher Ridgeway will now be protected from flower munching wild rabbits thanks to a £1,750 donation from local house builder Redrow.
Today Keith Miller, regional director of Redrow West Country, presented the Mayor of Ottery St Mary, Councillor Glyn Dobson with a cheque at Redrow's Otter Grange development, which is located next to the cemetery.
The funding will be used towards rabbit proof fencing to stop wild rabbits entering the grounds and causing damage to the grass and flowers that have been carefully planted by local residents.
The Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary is hosting a festive Christmas Jumper fundraising feast for pre-Christmas revellers.
Diners joining the fun on Friday 19th December will be obliged to wear a jumper festooned with a seasonal motif or decoration, although chef Robin Rea believes some will go the extra mile.
“I’m sure we’ll be seeing some extra special efforts from creative Rusty Pig diners,” he said.
Robin will choose his favourite jumper on the night, and the wearer will enjoy their meal for free.
“There’s also a booby prize for the worst effort, and I imagine...
As community support builds for Devon’s wild beavers, an oil painting of a Devon beaver has raised £700 for Devon Wildlife Trust’s work to keep the animals on the River Otter. Support has also been forthcoming from Ottery St Mary schools, Exeter businesses – and even TV presenter Chris Packham. The aim of the appeal is to keep the wild beaver population on the River Otter by securing a licence from the government for a five- year monitoring project to...
