Announcing A Celebration of Sidmouth Folk Festival this summer

Organisers of The Sidmouth Folk Festival have revealed the first details of a week-long event that will bring an exciting blend of music, dance and family entertainment back to the Devon seaside town this summer.

Billed as A Celebration of Sidmouth Folk Festival and taking place between July 30 and August 6, the aim is to offer everyone an authentic taste of the festival they know and love, while remaining vigilant around ongoing Covid-19 concerns and restrictions.

Having postponed their annual concert in Exeter Cathedral last July due to Covid, the Amadeus Orchestra is delighted to announce that it will now take place in July 2021.

Principal conductor Philip Mackenzie says: “As an orchestra, we have been silent since February 2020 when we performed in the House of Commons and we are very excited by the prospect of performing once again. It is very fitting that our first post-Covid concert will be held in Exeter Cathedral as this is the city where the orchestra was founded in 1990.”

Exeter-based performer Riaz Ahmad will join nine musicians and artists from across the globe for a virtual music festival that will raise money to support Creative Action Institute’s work to advance gender equality and build a more sustainable planet.

Riaz will be performing a set as part of Raising Spirits, Creative Action Institute’s online event taking place October 24th at 4:00 pm EST. He is joining performers from Bristol, Boston (United States), New York City, Cincinnati, Seattle, Kenya, and Cameroon, in this one-night-only event.

Local composer creates a Zoom version of audio installation during lockdown

For the past few weeks composer / technologist Simon Belshaw has been working on a project to create a Zoom version of his Music Machine 4 for 8 players sound installation.

The Arts Council funded physical installation was scheduled for March 2020 but had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.

The piece uses 8 novation launchpads and 8 Raspberry Pi computers. The launchpads have an 8x8 grid of buttons, when one of these lights up the performer presses it and a short cell of music is played.
