Based on original witness evidence from a 1687 Dorset witch trial, WITCH examines the perils of being a woman alone in the early modern era. It's an emotive piece about witchcraft trials which contains neither a trial nor any witchcraft - instead it looks at the interpersonal relationships of those involved and focuses on the human story behind such accusations. Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum has won Gold in the 2017 Devon Tourism Awards for Large Attraction. RAMM also scooped a Silver award for Access and Inclusivity and Bronze award for Artistic, Cultural and Learning Attraction.

The award ceremony was held in Plymouth Guildhall and hosted by travel commentator Simon Calder and special guest, Polar Explorer Anne Daniels. 76 awards were presented to winners from 25 categories, including recognition for restaurants, hotels, attractions, guided tours, holiday parks and many more.

Gregory looking for old photographs for heritage museum

Have you ever worked at Gregory Distribution? Do you have relatives or acquaintances who have worked at Devon’s oldest existing road transport business?

Gardener, writer and broadcaster Toby Buckland has replanted the flower beds leading up to the Garden entrance to Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery as a tribute to its collections.

RAMM has commissioned a new artwork from the internationally-acclaimed glass sculptor, Steffen Dam, for its major summer exhibition Sea life: Glimpses of the Wonderful.

Dam will produce an artwork consisting of around 16 ‘marine life’ jars containing plausible but fictitious organisms. The work will be inspired by RAMM’s extensive collection of marine specimens in Sladen’s Study. RAMM Friends fill the gap

The Friends of Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) have added miniature by the renowned 19th-century Exeter miniaturist, James Leakey (1775-1865), to the city’s Fine Art collection.

The collection includes his drawings, portraits and landscapes but no miniatures; a significant gap for an artist whose reputation as a miniaturist extended beyond the borders of his Devonshire home. Research that revealed the gap was prompted by an enquiry by his descendants.

The Seaton Down Hoard Roman Roadshow will be at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum’s (RAMM) on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 February 2017.

Buried in East Devon around AD350 and only discovered in 2013, the Seaton Down Hoard is made up of 22,888 coins and three iron ingots. It is the fourth largest hoard of Roman coins ever found.

Saving it for Devon was made possible by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Clinton Estates, a private donation by Patrick Long, and many contributions by members of the public. To celebrate its return, a Roman Roadshow is touring Devon.
