Heavitree community enjoys run away success

With New Year’s resolutions of better health and fitness for 2017 firmly in focus, an astonishing 65 Exeter residents turned up in the first week of January to try out a new Couch to 5k beginner running group in Heavitree.

On Monday, one week on, nearly 100 people came along and joined in.

The running group was set up by Park Life Heavitree, a community organisation based in and around Heavitree Pleasure Ground. They were granted funding to provide new opportunities for residents in Heavitree to be active, by Get Active Exeter, the local health and wellbeing partnership...

Woman robbed and assaulted in Heavitree

Police are appealing to dog walkers in the Heavitree area of Exeter who may have witnessed a robbery.

On Wednesday, 11th May a woman, in her twenties, was robbed and assaulted as she walked her dog in Hamlin Lane playing fields between 6pm and 7pm.

The woman was pushed to the floor and suffered a number of minor cuts when the suspect used a sharp object to attack her. She did not require medical treatment but was very shaken.

The victim’s brown leather wallet was stolen during the incident.

Park Life Heavitree wins Prince of Wales Award

The Devon County Show's Prince of Wales Award has its first urban winner, in the shape of Park Life, Heavitree, in the heart of Exeter. The award, which carries a first prize of £1,000, is given each year for community projects which build local sustainability, which is what Park Life is all about.

Exeter School changes lives with 15th WaterAid concert

For the 15th year running and with support from South West Water and Ashfords Solicitors, the talented young musicians and singers from Exeter School will perform a special concert to raise funds for international charity WaterAid.

All proceeds from the concert, which takes place at St Michael's Church, Heavitree, from 7:30pm on Tuesday 26 April, will go directly to WaterAid projects in Zambia, helping some of the country's poorest communities gain access to clean water and safe sanitation.

700 more Exeter streetlights to go part-time

Around 700 streetlights in residential streets in Heavitree and Whipton Barton will be converted to part-night lighting from Monday 18 January.

The converted streetlights, previously on all-night, will be switched off from about 12:30am to 5:30am, before coming on again at dawn.

The change is part of Devon County Council’s (DCC) on-going programme to reduce costs and carbon emissions across the county.

Lighting on main and on the busiest roads, local footpaths and walk-home routes will remain on all night.

“As soon as I enter Exeter Cathedral I make a beeline for Liz for a cuddle and a catch up!”

It’s not me being talked about but Liz, one of our amazing bereavement supporter volunteers. I was at Hospiscare’s Light Up A Life Service in the cathedral and met a lady who comes along every year.

A weight-loss expert from Exeter has won a brilliant bronze award for the exceptional work she does in helping 170 people in the area to lose weight every week.

To celebrate this achievement Lyndsay is opening a new day time Heavitree group.
