East Devon District Council is delighted to announce that the 2017 events guide for Countryside has been published.

The guide, which runs from April through to September, is jam-packed with outdoor events and activities for all ages, which will take place across the district.

As well as over 60 events delivered by the Countryside team there are nearly 100 other events delivered by partner organisations to choose from.

Whether you fancy foraging for a wild lunch, trying out Tai Chi in the countryside or want to learn more about local wildlife on a guided canoe tour...

Half term fun in the East Devon countryside

During half term families can join the East Devon Countryside Rangers at Seaton Wetlands on Tuesday 14 February 2017 for a day of fun learning how to make gardens more wildlife friendly, followed by bird watching for children.

During the Wildlife Gardening event, which will take place between 10am to 2pm, one of the Countryside Rangers will demonstrate willow coppicing and refreshments will be served from the Discovery Hut. No booking is required for this event. Cost for materials: £7.50 per bird box kit, £3 for other craft activities.

Half term week was also the Little Fireface Project’s S.L.O.W. (Slow Loris Outreach Week) and here at Shaldon Zoo we were busy raising awareness and funds for this enigmatic and endangered primate which is related to bushbabies and lemurs!

Found throughout South and Southeast Asia, these shy nocturnal primates have a deadly secret ... they have a toxic bite! Due to their undeniably cute appearance, slow lorises are heavily affected by the illegal pet trade and because of the ability to deliver a venomous bite, traders pull their teeth out with wire cutters or pliers before selling...

Spooky fun at The Donkey Sanctuary

This October half term there will be plenty of spooky goings-on at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth. With holiday hunts, pumpkin carving and plenty of family fun there is sure to be something for everyone.

Visitors to the Sanctuary during this half term (Monday 24 October – Sunday 30 October) can expect a range of spooktacular events, ready to get them in the trick-or-treating spirit.

The Donkey Sanctuary have organised family friendly activities from a Halloween holiday hunt, to face painting and pumpkin carving!
