New golf course a soaring success

The new ‘Twenty Sixteen’ golf course at Exeter Golf and Country Club is officially a soaring success with the men’s golf section close to being full.

With less than 15 men’s golf memberships now available, the club is bucking the trend with its thriving golf section. The new golf course combined with the arrival of new Head Golf Professional, Darren Everett and his team, has attracted golfers from across the region. COUNTRY music fans will be in for a treat when award-winning tribute acts to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers perform in Tiverton.

Kelly O’Brien and Peter White, both winners at the National Tribute Awards in 2013, are bringing The Dolly and Kenny Show to Tiverton Golf Club on Saturday 14 May.

Tickets cost £12 and are now on sale to the public from the club bar.

The event will coincide with The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration at Windsor Castle from 12 to 15 May.

QUIZ fans of all ages are being invited to put their knowledge to the test in a Christmas Quiz Night in Tiverton.

Teams of up to six people can enter the event at Tiverton Golf Club on Saturday 12 December (7pm for 7.30pm).

The event is open to non-members and will feature a new-look format with a big screen.

Entry is £6 per person, to include a buffet. Places are limited and the deadline for entries is Wednesday 9 December.

Queen II set to rock Tiverton

QUEEN fans in the Exeter area have been given an unexpected opportunity to see one of the UK’s leading tributes to the legendary rock band.

Queen II, a Sheffield-based band who have toured the UK and Europe since 2009, will be performing at Tiverton Golf Club, Tiverton, on Saturday 25 April.

Their show for members and friends on Friday 24 April sold out within two weeks, prompting the club to organise a second event the following night which is open to everyone.

Exeter residents are invited to bingo nights at Tiverton Golf Club, which are now open to the public.

The club's first bingo night of 2015 is on Friday 9 January (7.30pm).

Jim Bray, social committee chairman, said: "We've recently been granted a premises licence by the district council and this offers a great opportunity to open some of our events to the public and let them sample our excellent facilities.

"If you enjoy a game of bingo, we'd be delighted to welcome you for a fun, friendly and relaxing evening."

Burns Supper

The event – a traditional celebration of the life and works of Scottish poet Robert Burns – takes place on Friday 23 January (7pm for 7.30pm).

A pair of Exeter golfers are preparing to travel to Morocco for a six-night, five-star, expenses-paid break, where they will compete for a prestigious national amateur pairs title, after qualifying from a regional final at Manor House GC, in Castle Combe, Wiltshire.
