Long-serving fly-half Gareth Steenson has today put pen to paper on a contract extension that will allow him to see out the remainder of the 2019/20 season with the Devon club.

Like club-mate Phil Dollman, who himself agreed a similar deal last week, both will form part of Rob Baxter’s squad as they gear up for next month’s return to action in both the Gallagher Premiership and Heineken Champions Cup....

Signed by the Chiefs back in the summer of 2010 from the Cornish Pirates, the 33-year-old fly-half has played an integral part in the recent rise of Exeter out of the Championship and into one of the leading rugby...

He was just seconds into a substitution when the whistle was blown for a misdemeanour in the scrum.

Mr Rowe protested his innocence but referee Tony ‘Spreaders’ Spreadbury brandished a yellow card.

It was the shortest debut in Exeter Chiefs history.

The club chairman was playing in a fun testimonial game for fly-half Gareth Steenson which was watched by an estimated 8,000 fans at Sandy Park.
