Spacex, an internationally renowned contemporary art organisation, based on Preston Street, Exeter, has this week shared its plans on how it is hoping to take the organisation into a new and exciting phase.

Following the temporary closure of its gallery at the end of last year, due to funding cuts by the Arts Council, Spacex’s management team have been engaged in thorough consultations with members of the art community and partnership organisations to help devise a sustainable, long-term strategy for the organisation.

Enchanting artworks by an enigmatic painter, who has created art under an assumed identity, are now on display at a Exeter gallery. The collection, entitled ‘The Enchanted World of Ryder’, has been unveiled at Castle Galleries, Exeter, in order for the works to be judged by the public on its own merits, allowing the audience to escape into a world full of mystery and fantasy. Ryder’s collection of eight pieces, which are now available as limited editions on canvas at the gallery, feature animal characters and landscapes in whimsical settings, and portray a sense of freedom and elation....

Spring is kicking off with a bang this year, with the arrival of the 15th edition of Animated Exeter, running from the 10th to the 22nd February 2014. These twelve days will see Exeter buzzing with exciting and innovative screenings, workshops and exhibitions taking place all over the city. Call For Artists and Makers for Devon Open Studios 2014

Registration for the 2014 Devon Open Studios event has now opened; artists and craftspeople in the county are invited to get involved.

Devon Open Studios, sponsored by Helpful Holidays, is the largest annual art event in the county attracting more than 20,000 visits to artists’ studios each year. During Devon Open Studios 2013, over 16 days in September, 250 artists opened their studios in 140 locations across Devon. The event was a tremendous success with total sales and commissions last year reaching over £135,000.

In creating these displays, Exeter’s Youth Inclusion and Support Team, young people, parents, carers and others discovered how objects and their stories can help connect us to other times and places, understand how our world became the place it is and help us find our own place in it.
