Top Welsh choir to perform in Kenton

A world famous choir from Wales will be performing in Kenton next month.

The Pelenna Valley Male Voice Choir will be raising the roof at All Saints Church on Saturday April 9 (6:30pm) to raise money for local cancer charity FORCE.

The concert is being staged in memory of John Hunt, founder and former chairman of the Kenton Friends of FORCE group.

He loved singing and had close links with the choir for many years. At his funeral, Pelenna musical director Dr Michael Thomas offered to bring the choir back to Kenton.

Harriet gives FORCE a birthday boost

Harriet King celebrated her 10th birthday by doing something very special for Exeter cancer charity FORCE.

Instead of getting presents on her big day, she asked friends and family to donate to the charity.

Ahead of her birthday in February Harriet said: “I have pretty much everything I could need and want. So instead of asking for birthday presents, if you would like to make a donation to the FORCE Cancer Charity, I would really appreciate it.”

Exeter Moose members support local cancer charity

Members of Exeter’s Wheatley St Michael Lodge of Moose International have presented a cheque for £700 to local cancer charity FORCE.

Moose International is an organisation dedicated to raising money for good causes.

Volunteers needed as FORCE shop re-opens

Another part of the FORCE Cancer Charity shop in Exeter is all set for a spooktacular opening on Halloween.

The popular Heavitree hub for bargain hunters closed in August for essential repairs and refurbishment.

One section re-opened on October 2 and another area will be back in business on Saturday October 31 with staff in fancy dress, hundreds of clothing items on sale for £1 and a bake sale.

FORCE launches new support group

FORCE will launch a new support group at its headquarters this autumn and the Exeter cancer charity is keen to hear from anyone who would like to get involved.

The Family and Friends Support Group is available for anyone who is close to someone affected by cancer - a partner, family member or close friend.

This group offers an opportunity to meet other people in a similar situation and will run on Wednesdays over six sessions fortnightly.

Knockout day for FORCE

The FORCE Cancer Charity It’s A Knockout event on a gloriously sunny day at Powderham Castle was a huge success.

More than 70 teams of 10 took part in some amazing fancy dress costumes.

They tackled 12 obstacles over the course of the day, many of them involving giant inflatables, water and foamy bubbles.

Teams were awarded points for their performance as well as the amount of money raised for FORCE from sponsorship.

Tickets on sale for Classics Galore!

Tickets have gone on sale for this year’s Classics Galore! concert at the University of Exeter Great Hall on Saturday November 14 and the best seats are selling fast.

The event has been held every two years since 2007 and has raised £50,000 for local cancer charity FORCE.

The show regularly attracts sell-out crowds of more than a thousand and spaces in the gallery have nearly all been snapped up already with only 25 of the £18 seats remaining.

FORCE shop set for short-term closure

The award-winning FORCE Cancer Charity shop in Heavitree will close on Friday (August 21) for essential refurbishments.

Building work will begin on September 1 and the first phase is due to be completed in time for a partial re-opening in the first week of October.

Phase 2 should be done by the end of October so that the shop can fully re-open in early November.

A group of friends who all went to Dawlish School and share a love of cycling set out today (Friday July 31) to ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End in just seven days.

Brothers Ross and Simon Szender, Euan Stronge, Ross Williams, Mike Smith and Sam Partridge will cover more than 900 miles from the tip of mainland Scotland to the most westerly point in Cornwall.

Award-winning FORCE charity shop set for temporary closure

The FORCE Cancer Charity Shop in Heavitree’s Fore Street has again been named the best in the country.

It’s won the award as the most profitable in its category from the Charity Retail Association.
