Easter holiday digital making events in Exeter

Exeter Library’s FabLab is hosting a programme of hands-on digital making events and workshops, specifically designed for children and young people.

The FabLab is an open access community workshop for anyone to turn their ideas into reality. The FabLab, or fabrication laboratory, allows people of any age the opportunity and facilities to invent, research and make almost any object, using an array of machines and resources.

FabLab Devon, in association with FabLab Plymouth at Plymouth College of Art, is offering a range of free FabLab digital fabrication laboratory workshops to members of the public, in FabLab Devon, which is based at Exeter Library, beginning on Monday 30 November.

The workshops will offer an introduction to FabLab processes through the use of cutting-edge technology such as 3D printing, 3D scanning, laser cutting and 3D design.

Schoolgirl shows off 'Fab' design

Creative youngsters across Devon have seen their designs come to life during a VIP session at Fab Lab Devon.

Devon County Council held a competition to encourage students of all ages to discover what the digital fabrication workshop at Exeter Library has to offer, and the winners are delighted with their experience.

Twelve year old Jenna Satterly from Exeter designed her own necklace and won a VIP session with local textile designer Francesca Lindsay-White to see it turned into the real thing.

Exeter Library's FabLab is to host a Music Hack Day as part of Get Creative - a year-long celebration of British arts, culture and creativity. A rare chance to hear live performances of some of Simon Belshaw's Music Machines. The works will be performed by Simon Belshaw, Julie Hill and Ruth Molins. Fab Lab expanding across Devon

The UK’s first Fab Lab, based at the newly refurbished Exeter Library, has proven such a hit that it is expanding its service in Devon.

Devon County Council opened the Fab Lab, or fabrication laboratory, in May this year as part of the multi million pound revamp of the library.

Plans are now in place to expand the service, with Totnes being the first area to benefit through a partnership with King Edward VI Community College.
