Hospiscare calls on ladies to walk under the stars

With the Hospiscare Men’s Walk only a couple of weeks away, the charity has announced that registration opened on Thursday 28 February for the Ladies’ Starlight Walk.

The event, which is taking place on Saturday 11 May in Exmouth, has a new name, new route and new start time but the same feeling of togetherness, as ladies raise money for the charity which provides end of life care for patients in Exeter, mid and East Devon.

Formerly the Midnight Walk, the new Starlight Walk, which starts and finishes at Exmouth rugby club and is sponsored by estate agents Whitton and Laing...

Police appeal for help following spate of shoplifting offences in Devon

Police are appealing to the public for help following a string of shoplifting offences in Devon. The four offences, which police believe involve the same men, occurred on the same day, 1 February, at shops in Exmouth, Teignmouth, Paignton and Torquay. At the Co-op in Dartmouth Road, Paignton at noon two men entered the rear of the store and stole 27 cases of cigarettes, cigars and tobacco products and four cases of chewing gum, total value in excess of £2,000. Exmouth RNLI rescue two men in river Exe

The Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat George Bearman was tasked at 6.17pm on Wednesday (20 February) by Brixham coastguard to rescue two men in the river Exe.

The casualties had jumped onto a moored yacht as their dinghy sank in difficult sailing conditions.

The charity’s three-man volunteer crew launched as darkness fell and winds were gusting force six, during an ebb tide. The team’s trained navigation skills were tested as the emergency call gave only details of the location, near Cockwood harbour.

The course qualifies you to apply for jobs on Beaches in the UK and abroad.

Landslip causes delays to First Great Western Trains

Update: Following an earlier landslip between Exeter Central and Exmouth all lines have now reopened.

Train services running through these stations are returning to normal but some services may still be delayed by up to 10 mins or revised at short notice. Disruption is expected until 11:30 29/01.

Earlier: There are currently delays to First Great Western services due to a landslip, which is causing disruption near Exeter Central.

New activities for young people in Exmouth

Devon County Council's Devon Youth Service in Exmouth is starting new Wednesday evening sessions for people in school years seven and eight.

Between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, the Hive youth centre on Imperial Road is arranging activities including arts and crafts, table tennis, hall games, karaoke, cooking and more.

The sessions are run by two qualified youth workers with young volunteers.

The Hive provides a range of activities for young people throughout the week, including:

Police appeal after thief steals church silverware

Police in Exmouth are appealing for information following the theft of silverware from the church of St Michaels & All Angels in Otterton, East Devon sometime between Sunday 20th January and Thursday 24th January.

The offender(s) entered the church during daylight when the Church was unlocked and stole silverware from the vestry.

Amongst items stolen were a silver wafer box holder, three silver chalices and a small silver dish.

Exmouth's Bowling Centre signed, sealed and ready to go!

Exmouth’s new Bowling Centre has been given the official seal of approval.

Inspectors from East Devon District Council confirmed last week that all parts of the building have now been finished in line with agreed plans. The bowling area itself opened for business under a temporary building licence at Christmas.

Disruptions on Stagecoach's 57 service due to RTA

UPDATE 11.41am: The road has now been reopened and services are returning to their normal timetable.

There are currently diversions in place on Stagecoach's 57 Exeter - Exmouth service due to a road closure following a Road Traffic Accident on the Exmouth Road (A376) between Lympstone Marine Camp and Lympstone Village.

From Exeter: service is running as normal as far as Lympstone Marine Camp then diverting across Woodbury Common, down Hulham Road and into Exmouth where we will resume the normal route.

Local woman to host event for unique jewellery

A woman from Exmouth is organising an open evening event in Exeter to present her creative collection of jewellery.

Bertie Wooltorton will be displaying her customised jewellery from her business ‘Gili Jewels’ at The Cove on Thursday 7th March from 2pm-7pm.
