Views sought on extended recycling trials

Households taking part in East Devon District Council’s recycling trials in new Feniton and Exmouth (The Colony) will soon be receiving a questionnaire to find out how the new service is working for them.

From mid-September, residents in these two areas have been using an improved service and have been able to collect cardboard and mixed plastics for the first time. These items, along with their usual extensive number of other recyclables including glass, metals, paper, plastic bottles, textiles and food waste, are collected from the kerbside every week.

Scare up a pumpkin at A la Ronde

It’s Hallowe’en season at A la Ronde, with lots of spooky half-term activities for any little ‘monsters’ who enjoy this frightful time of year.

From Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November there will be a pumpkin trail around A la Ronde and any children who find all the pumpkins will win a prize.

For those who want to get creative, there will also be a fun day on Tuesday 27 October. Bring your own pumpkin along for a carving session, or have a go at creating apple monsters - perfect for a fun snack or decorating the home.

Headway Devon’s popular Autumn Bazaar and Coffee Morning will be returning to the Open Door Centre on Church Street in Exmouth on Thursday 29th October. Body pulled from water at Exmouth Marina

The body of a teenager was pulled from the water at Marina in Exmouth at the weekend.

Police were called out to the Marina just after 1pm on Saturday (17 October), after a body was discovered in the water.

The body, believed to be a local 19-year-old, was recovered by the RNLI.

Police say they're not treating his death as suspicious.

LED Leisure Management is delighted to be opening the doors to all the new facilities at Exmouth Leisure Centre this half-term. Monday 26th October marks the end to an extensive year-long refurbishment programme. Members of the East Devon District Council Conservative Group were treated to a guided tour of Exmouth’s RNLI station on Saturday (10 October), including an in-depth look at the South West’s first Shannon class lifeboat – the R and J Welburn. They were shown around the lifeboat station by Coxswain Steve Hockings-Thompson and members of his volunteer crew. Police appeal following burglary in Exmouth

Police investigating a burglary at a property in Exmouth last week are appealing for information.

A property on Valley Way was broken into sometime between 5.50pm and 10.15pm on Friday 9 October.

Jewellery, which is of great sentimental value to the victim, was stolen during the burglary.

Among the items taken were a gold link bracelet, silver earrings with aquamarine stone with an ‘S’ pattern around the edge, a silver bangle with mother of pearl on the outside, a fine long gold chain and a silver bangle with the biblical inscription on the outside which reads: I am...

Burst main affects water supply in Exmouth

Firefighters were called to a burst water main in Exmouth this morning (Sunday 11 October).

Fire control took a call from a member of the public just before 7am stating that a water main had burst on Pound Lane and that fast flowing water was causing a danger to public and traffic.

One appliance from Exmouth was sent to the scene. Upon arrival crews cordoned off the burst water main and requested the immediate attendance of a South West Water team.

Fire control contacted the police and the despatched a police unit to cordon off the road using traffic cones.

Parish and town councils to be invited to beach huts consultations

In a move to progress the management of one of East Devon’s most prized facilities – its beach huts and chalets - councillors at Wednesday’s (7 October) cabinet meeting voted in as a matter of urgency a revised set of beach hut proposals, which emphasised the need to avoid a one-size fits all policy and which will focus on involving town and parish councils on future consultation. Recommended rent increases for 2016/2017 will reflect market value but other rental changes will be made after further consultation has been carried out with town and parish councils.
