These beautifully made products are made using the visual language of traditional toys.

These playthings may seem harmless enough on the outside but, scratch the surface, and there's a serious, possibly even disturbing, message just waiting to be discovered.

Olympics-inspired Disability Sports Festival in Exeter

CEDA is running a disability sports festival inspired by the Rio Olympics, and in anticipation of the Paralympic Games.

The event will offer disabled people the opportunity to try some of the most popular athletic events including throwing, running, wheelchair racing and jumping.

CEDA, a charity who work with disabled people in Devon, are working in partnership with the South West Athletics Academy to put on the festival at Exeter Arena.

Social housing tenants face £1,000 a year average rent rise

The Local Government Association is urging new ministers to rethink the Pay to Stay policy which will require councils to charge some of their tenants higher rents from April 2017.

It comes as new analysis reveals today that more than 70,000 social housing tenants could face rent rise bills of an average £1,000 a year from next year under government plans to increase rents for those deemed to be earning high incomes. Spectators' guide to Devon Stage of the Tour of Britain

Spectators have 93 miles (137km) of Devon’s roads to choose from when it comes to watching the Devon Stage Tour of Britain on Friday 9 September.

Devon County Council, supported by East Devon District Council, Teignbridge District Council and Dartmoor National Park, will host Stage Six of The Tour, starting in Sidmouth and finishing at Haytor.

Exeter student tackles plight of child brides in Bangladesh

A student with close ties to Bangladesh has just returned from a research mission to raise awareness of the damaging culture of child marriage.

Muntasha Quddus, in her 3rd year of the University of Exeter Medical School’s Medical Sciences programme, won the £6,918 Davis Peace Project grant while on her Professional Training Year (PTY) at the University of Chicago. During this research placement year, she decided to take on the poignant issue of child marriage in Bangladesh, where her parents were born and where she visits family most years.

Historic home to open to public for first time

One of Devon’s hidden gems will be open to the public for the first time in its 250-year history as part of a national heritage event.

Newly refurbished Rockbeare Manor, just outside Exeter, will open its historically important grounds and Grade I listed house from noon until 4pm on Sunday, September 11, as part of the 2016 National Heritage Open Day.

Over 900,000 people in the South West of England are at risk of food poisoning from pink burgers at Bank Holiday barbecues, according to research released today by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). The research reveals that despite 69% stating they are concerned about food poisoning, almost a third (29%) of people in the South West would eat a burger that isn’t fully cooked through. One in 10 (11%) said that they actually prefer burgers cooked this way, and 61% admit to undercooking them at home. Your opportunity to experience the oldest book of English literature in existence. Written in about 970AD, the Exeter Book is the oldest of only four surviving books of Anglo-Saxon literature anywhere in the world. Much admired for its beautiful writing and the quality of its verse, this unique book of poetry has been at Exeter Cathedral since Leofric, the first Bishop of Exeter, gave it to his church in around 1072. Within its 246 pages are some 40 poems and nearly 100 poetic riddles.
