Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital is continuing its winning partnership with the Exeter Chiefs for a fifth successive season.

With rugby becoming an increasingly demanding sport physically, it’s crucial the players have the right medical team behind them.

And for the past five years, the experts at Nuffield have helped several of the squad bounce back to fitness.

Senior player Tom Johnson, who spent three weeks receiving shockwave treatment on an Achilles problem in the off season, was full of praise for the Nuffield team.

Tom explained: “These days a lot of...

The panels will provide 140,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, enough to power 35 houses and will save the Technology Centre approx £150,000 over 20 years. The panels will reduce the carbon footprint of the College by 78 tonnes a year – the same amount...

Three historic shipwrecks in the South West have been given protection by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on the advice of Historic England. Shipwrecks have been a source of inspiration to English writers, artists and scholars for centuries – from Shakespeare to Enid Blyton, whose Famous Five spent a whole summer exploring a fictional Cornish wreck. This summer, these wrecks have been given special protection, and they include two that are often publicly accessible from the Devon sands. Shifting sands and weather patterns can allow the public to see sights that are usually the...

Historically low interest rates and schemes such as Help to Buy are set to ensure that buyers looking to make a move to Exeter in 2016 will be able to take advantage of some of the best buying conditions the housing market has ever seen.

Five star housebuilder David Wilson Homes, which has a number of developments in Exeter, said the EU Referendum result has created some uncertainty for potential buyers but says that nothing has changed in terms of attractive interest rates and schemes to help existing owners move to a larger home in the city.

Help to Buy is a very popular...

Exeter City 1 Hartlepool Utd 2: Match report

Exeter City could not build on an impressive cup win over Brentford on Tuesday as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Hartlepool United on Saturday.

The Grecians took the lead in the first half as Liam McAlinden bagged his first goal for the club, but the home side were hit with a couple of sucker punches midway through the second half as goals Michael Woods and Billy Paynter turned the game on its head in matter of minutes.

City were without a number of first team players going into the game. Ryan Harley, who scored the winner against Brentford in the EFL Cup on Tuesday,...

Chiefs kick off season with six-try victory

Rob Baxter challenged his troops to deliver in battle ahead of their opening pre-season fixture against the Scarlets at a sun-baked Sandy Park.

Keen to ensure his class of 2016/17 hit the new season firing on all cylinders, the Exeter Chiefs head coach said it was vital those given their chance against the Welsh region made the most of the opportunity afforded to them.

In an often one-sided encounter, last season’s Aviva Premiership runners-up simply had too much in all departments for the Scarlets, whose scant reward on a sizzling summer’s day was a first half penalty from...

Experts to use drones to discover more about killer whales

Drones will be used to discover more about the social lives of killer whales and help conserve these amazing mammals, which are at risk of extinction.

Experts from the University of Exeter, who are working with the Center for Whale Research, believe the use of the drones could revolutionise our understanding of whale behaviour. They hope the public will support their work through a crowdfunding campaign, launched this week.

It is already known that family social structures are critically important in helping whales survive at a time when their population is critically...

Chiefs line-ups for Scarlets clash

Rob Baxter has warned his Exeter Chiefs squad they can ill afford to ease into the new 2016/17 season as opportunities to impress could well be scarce.

The Devon kick-off the first of three pre-season games tomorrow at home to the Scarlets (3pm) and Baxter is looking to give a large nucleus of his troops the chance to impress.

Although many of the club’s clutch of international names will sit out this first run-out after returning to pre-season training later than their team-mates, Baxter is still able to parade two powerful line-ups for the visit of the Welsh region to...
